Buckhannon, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer men's basketball team dropped a tough road contest to the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday by 11, 94-83.
Glenville State (7-11, 2-10) shot well in the contest as they went 33-for-63 on the day for 52 percent and went 8-of-25 from deep for 32 percent. West Virginia Wesleyan (8-10, 5-7) shot an outstanding 62 percent from the field as they went 38-for-61 and shot 48 percent from deep as they netted 16 three-pointers.
The Bobcats got off to a great start as they jumped out to a 21-8 lead at the 14:44 minute mark. WVWC then extended their lead to 17, 29-12. However, GSC went on an 11-0 run as they pulled within six points, 29-23, with 9:25 to play until halftime.
Jump to late in the first half and the Pioneers again found their selves trailing, 40-31. The Bobcats then ended the half outscoring the Pioneers 11-10 as they held a 10 point lead, 51-41.
West Virginia Wesleyan would continue to hold the lead over Glenville State at 65-57. WVWC then made another run, this time outscoring GSC 8-0, as they took a 16 point lead, 73-57. Hiwever, GSC made a late 8-0 run their selves as they pulled within eight, 75-69 with 7:38 to play in the game.
The Bobcats proved to be too much for the Pioneers as they outscored GSC 16-14 to end the game as Glenville State fell, 94-83.
GSC never led in the game. WVWC's largest lead of the game was by 17 which came in the first half.
Glenville State won the rebounding battle 34-23 and also outscored the Bobcats in the paint, 34-24. The Pioneers had 12 second chance points while the Bobcats none.
Kalin Johnson scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Pioneers. Phil Bledsoe posted his 10th double-double of the season as he scored 23 points and grabbed a season-high 19 points.
Jamal Pollydore posted his first career double-double as he scored 10 points and dished out 10 assists. Elisha Mayberry chipped in with 11 points.
West Virginia Wesleyan had six players in double figures with Clay Todd leading the way with 20 points as he went 4-for-4 from behind the arc. Luka Petrovic posted a double-double scoring 18 points and dishing out 12 assist.
Glenville State (7-11, 2-10) will travel to Concord University this week, Wednesday, January 30th for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with the Mountain Lions.
