Pioneers Earn Road Win Over Cheyney

Cheyney, Pa. – The GSC Pioneer men's basketball team went on the road Sunday and had three players score in double figures as they earned a 12 point victory over the Wolves of Cheyney.

Glenville State (7-5) shot 43 percent from the floor and 36 percent from deep going 13-for-36 as they picked up the win. Cheyney (1-10) shot 38 percent from the field and went 8-of-30 from deep for 26 percent.

Cheyney got off to a fast start as they jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the Pioneers early in the first. However, GSC battled back as they made their own run and pulled within two points at 10-8 with 14:41 to play.

But again the Wolves built another eight point lead this time at 23-25 with 6:46 to play until the half.

Glenville State then ended the half on a 12-5 run as they pulled within one at intermission, 28-27.

The Pioneers came out in the second half firing on all cylinders as they took a six point lead at 48-42 with 13:48 to play. Cheyneywould  pull within one at the 10:12 minute mark at 50-49.

 GSC weathered the storm and went on an 11-2 run and went up by 10 points at 61-51 with 8:22 left in the contest. After the run the Pioneers never looked back as they went on to earn the 12 point win, 79-67.

Glenville State scored 19 fast break points while Cheyney had none.

Kalin Johnson scored a game-high 21 points and dished out two assists for GSC while Phil Bledsoe scored 19 points and grabbed five boards. Jamal Pollydore chipped in with 18 points as he drilled five three-pointers.

Davion Johnson scored seven points off the bench while dishing out five assists and grabbing nine rebounds. JD Hensler got his first start of the season as he chipped in with six points off of two three-pointers.

Cheyney was led by Derrick Biney as he scored 19 points to go with eight assists and grabbed 11 rebounds posting a double-double.

Glenville State (7-5) will hit the road on Thursday, January 10th when they travel to Notre Dame College for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off with the Flacons.
