Pioneer Basketball Extends Win Streak to 2-0

Glenville, W.Va. –  The Glenville State Basketball team pushed their win streak to 2-0 after defeating the Golden Eagles of Clarion University in the Tip-Off Classic. The Pioneers outscored Clarion 97-77 in a non-conference match-up.
 
Tyvon Taylor lead the Blue and White on another outstanding game as he paced 26 minutes posting 21 total points, two rebounds, two steals along with three assists.
 
Following Taylor was Phil Bledsoe grabbing the first Pioneer double-double of the season and 18th in his career, scoring 14 total points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
 
Buckets by Rodney Ray, Phil Bledsoe and Tyvon Taylor would start the Pioneer's momentum taking an early 8-2 lead over the Golden Eagles. Clarion would then answer back going on an 8-4 run to tie the match at 10 all early in the first with 14:34 remaining.
 
Both teams would trade baskets back and fourth as Clarion grabbed their first lead 16-14. Taylor responded back with a layup and three-pointer to regain the lead 19-18 with 10:59 left to play. Najee Scott would add another shot from deep to extend to their lead 22-18.
 
Glenville State would go on a 14-5 run to push their lead to 10 to top a 33-23 lead.
 
Steven Verplancken and Seth Fallon scored from deep to as GSC went on another run 14-7 maintaining a 14-point lead at 44-30 with 3:46.
 
The Blue and White made separation adding an additional 10-3 run leading 51-33 with 2:11 remaining in the half. Clarion would make the last two baskets of the half as GSC led 51-39.
 
Glenville State shot 43% from the field in the first but only shot 35% from behind the arc and pulled down 22 rebounds. Clarion made 50% of their shots but only shot 16% from deep.
 
Bledsoe would be fouled to start the second half, going 2-for-2 at the line to push their lead to 53-39. GSC would continue on a 9-3 run by going to town and reaching a 19-point lead as Bledsoe connects with Frampton to extend the lead to 62-42 with 15:51 remaining in the game.
 
The Golden Eagles cut their deficit by going on a 10-7 run still trailing 66-52, however Najee Scott would go 2-for-2 from the line as Verplancken would connect all net from behind the arc.
 
The Pioneers and Golden Eagles would again trade baskets as each team scored 16 points a piece as Glenville State increased their lead by 20 at 85-65 with 4:40 left in play.
 
Buckets by Rodney Ray, Bledsoe, Verplancken and Fallon put the Pioneers up 97-77 to secure their second victory of the season.
 
Glenville State shot 30-for-70 from the field with a 42% goal rate, while shooting 31% form deep. The Pioneers defense came away with 14 steals forcing Clarion into 21 turnovers earing 12 second chance points.
 
Najee Scott posted 19 points, pacing 16 minutes with an assist and two steals.
 
Rodney Ray and Steven Verplancken both dropped 11 points each with three and two rebounds respectively.
 
The Golden Eagles were lead by James Price also posting 21 points with two rebounds and a steal. Following Price was Aaron Hilzeneger scoring 20 total points for Clarion with five rebounds and hitting four threes'.
 
The Pioneers (2-0) will return to action Sunday, November 17th to square off against Carlow University in the Waco at 2pm.
