Glenville, W.Va. – Coming into the match at 1-0 on the year with a victorious season opener, the Lady Pioneers faced off against the Golden Rams of West Chester University. The Lady Pioneers would play from behind throughout however they came back to tie the game up within the last three minutes left of play, but came up short falling 99-96.
Ra'Shawna Stone paced the Blue and White 28 minutes to lead Glenville State (1-1) with 24 total points while making three three-pointers and grabbing eight rebounds.
The Golden Rams (1-1) jumped out to an early 10-4 lead over the Lady Pioneers with buckets by
Emily Stoller and
Taychaun Hubbard at the at the 6:46 mark in the first quarter.
Zakiyah Winfield and
Kaneshia Afi put a stop to the WCU momentum with a shot from the free throw and layup to reduce the Golden Ram lead to 10-7.
The Lady Pioneers would fall behind as WCU made separation with a nine-point lead at 19-11 before Re'Shawna Stone and Hubbard would score from deep going on a 9-6 run. The first quarter ended 25-20 Golden Ram lead.
To start the second quarter, West Chester went on a 10-5 to lead by 10 at 35-25 with 7:18 left in the half.
The Lady Pioneers would go on a short 5-3 run with Windfield behind the arc and shots from
Abby Stoller to cut their shortfall to five. The Golden Rams answered back going on an 11-7 run to increase their lead back to 47-35 with 2:06 left in the second.
Winfield and Stone would go on a short 7-1 run from deep making it 47-40 then trading baskets to end the half with the Golden Rams leading 51-43.
Glenville State shot 33.3% going 14-for-42 while West Chester went 18-for-37 shooting 48.6%. The Lady Pioneers fell short behind the arc scoring just 6-for-25.
GSC started the third on a 12-8 run as Hubbard notched seven points along with
Ty Armstrong one from deep as Lady Pioneers trail 59-55.
West Chester carried a 19-12 run to maintain their nine-point lead 76-67 with 1:34 left in the third.
The Lady Pioneers started the fourth quarter trailing 73-80 while trading baskets for a 12-11 run at 92-84 with 3:19 left in the game.
With 1:13 left, the Blue and White would go on a 11-4 run with Armstrong from behind the line to reduce the Golden Ram lead 96-93.
Hubbard would tie the game with a layup at 96 all before
Emily Stoller fouled WCU's Kathrine Fisher as she would go two for two on the line to finish the game 99-96.
The Lady Pioneers would finish 34-81 shooting 42% from the field and 26.3% from deep only making 10-of-38. GSC's defense came away with seven steals to force WCU into 21 turnovers.
Winfield and Armstrong would both knot 19 points a piece, Winfield shot 54.5% from the field as Armstrong went 5-for-13 from deep.
Hubbard would tally four assists along with Armstrong with six rebounds.
The Golden Rams were lead by Alexis Anderson and Katherine Fisher as they lead the team with 25 and 19 points respectively. Anderson went 8-for-17 and 3-for-7 from deep along with Fisher who shot 7-for-12 gaining seven rebounds.
The Lady Pioneers will return to action November 15
th to square off against the Crimson Hawks at IUP in Indian, PA at 7pm.
