Ty Armstrong posted a season-high and game-high 29 points going 10-for-14 from the field as the Lady Pioneers went on the road and picked up a big road victory over the Crimson Hawks of IUP, 86-79.
Glenville State (2-1) had three players score in double figures while they shot 50 percent from the field while IUP (2-1) had four players in double figures and shot 57 percent from the floor.
After a back and forth contest early GSC and IUP found their selves knotted up at 8-8 at the 6:02 minute mark.
Then both teams traded several buckets as each scored 12 points. Again, we were tied up at 19 all with just 2:10 to play in quarter number one.
The Crimson Hawks went on a 6-2 run to end the quarter as the Lady Pioneers trailed 25-21 after one.
IUP started the second quarter on a 6-2 run as they built an eight-point lead, 31-23, at the 7:54 minute mark. However, the Lady Pioneers answered back with a 10-0 run, capped off by a Re'Shawna Stone three-pointer, as GSC took a two-point lead 33-31 with 3:21 to play until the half.
Glenville State then ended the half on a small 7-4 run as the Lady Pioneers took a slight three-point lead into halftime, 40-37.
Ty Armstrong scored 10 first half points. The Lady Pioneers shot 51 percent from the floor in the first half but shot just 25 percent from deep hitting just 2-of-8 three-pointers.
IUP was led by Justina Mascaro as she scored 10 points in the first half. The Crimson Hawks shot 64 percent from the field and 33 percent from behind the arc in the half.
Glenville State and IUP traded back-to-back-to-back baskets as the Lady Pioneers held a three-point lead at 46-43 early in third. The Lady Pioneers went on to outscore the Crimson Hawks 28-18 in the quarter as they took a 13 point lead into the fourth, 68-55.
IUP started the fourth on a 9-3 run as they cut GSC's lead to just seven, 71-64 with 6:09 to play. Ty Armstorng would answer back as she netted back-to-back three-pointers to push the Lady Pioneers lead back to 13 points, 77-64 at the 5:27 minute mark.
IUP then made a run 12-6 run as they cut the Lady Pioneers lead to seven, 83-76, with 1:35 left. However,
Emily Stoller would answer with a huge three-pointer as GSC went back up by 10, 86-76 with just a minute of action to play. Â
Glenville State would hold on and claim the seven point victory over IUP, 86-79.
The Lady Pioneers scored 29 points off of 23 IUP turnovers. GSC shot 45 percent from deep hitting 10-of-22 three-pointer while the Crimson Hawks shot 33 percent from deep going 3-for-9.
Ty Armstrong led GSC with 29 points while
Emily Stoller chipped in with 18 points hitting five three-pointers.
Zakiyah Winfield also had a nice outing posting 16 points to go with four assists.
IUP was led by Lexi Griggs and Mikayla Lovelace as they each scored 17 points in the contest. Griggs also grabbed six rebounds and dished out two assists.
Glenville State (2-1) will return to action next Thursday, November 21
st as they travel to take on Ohio Dominican at 6 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio.
