Glenville, W.Va. – The Lady Pioneers fall in the last match of the season to the Cardinals of Wheeling University at (25-22), (25-15) and (25-12). The Blue and White complete their season at 5-23 on the year.
The Cardinals would get an early 4-0 lead but
Chase Cooksey would respond with the first Blue and White kill of the match. WU extended their lead to 8-2 before
Jezaray Clark-Casto answered the Cardinal attack with a solo block. The Cardinals would lead 12-8 as kills by
Skylar Mace and WU attack errors would tie the set at 12 all. The Cardinals would again separate from the Lady Pioneers at 21-16 as the Blue and White countered with a service ace and kill by Clark-Casto with WU errors to trail 23-20. The Cardinals would take the set 25-22.
Both teams would scratch points before the Cardinals took an 8-3 lead early in the second set. The Cardinals would detach from the Lady Pioneers with a ten-point lead at 20-11 before taking the set 25-15.
Block attacks by Clark-Casto,
Emilie Jedamski and Cooksey would trail the Cardinals 5-4. Wheeling would gain an eight-point lead at 16-8 before taking the match 25-12.
Mace would lead the Lady Pioneers with 15 kills and nine kills.
Chase Cooksey followed Mace with 10 kills on the day.
Clark-Casto and
Madison Shepherd both notched a service ace each.
The Lady Pioneers conclude the 2019 season finishing 12
th overall in the MEC.
