Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers Basketball team traveled to Davidson, North Carolina to square off against the Division I opponent the Wildcats of Davidson College. After a great showing by the Blue and White they would come up short 102-94 in what was their final exhibition before the regular season gets underway.

The Pioneers would gain an early 9-2 lead drilling three, three pointers by
Noah Frampton,
Phil Bledsoe and
Steven Verplancken. Davidson then went on a 7-3 run taking their first lead of the game at 15-14 with 14:30 left in the half.

The Pioneers and the Wildcats would swap baskets until
Najee Scott would score a three pointer to tie the match at 24 all.

Davidson would then go on an 8-5 run to take a 32-26 lead, the largest gap of the first half the half. However, Frampton would end the Wildcat momentum as he connected two three balls at 8:39 minute mark, as GSC trailed 38-34.

The Blue and White forced a Davidson timeout to only comeback and tie it up at 38 on a layup by Bledsoe and then took the lead with another layup by Hagel Augustin with 5:35 left in the first.

Before the half, the Pioneers would go on a 13-11 run to lead the Wildcats at the break, 51-49.

Both the Pioneers and the Wildcats shot 51 percent from the field in the first half, but the Blue and White would only shoot 37 percent from deep where Davidson shoot 50 percent.

The Wildcats came out in the second half and started on a 9-2 run taking a 58-53 lead with 16:32 left to play. They would continue their run and stretch it to a 21-14 run leading the Pioneers by 10, 77-67, with 11:28 to go.

Verplancken and Bledsoe would take the Blue and White on a small 6-0 run as they decrease the gap 79-76, however Wildcat Luke Frampton, the brother of GSC's
Noah Frampton, would answer with a three pointer of his own to extend their lead back to 82-76.

Augustin and Verplancken would tie the score at 88 all with five minutes left before Verplancken had a layup to take the first lead in the second half at, 90-89.

The two teams would go back and forth with just one minute of play left as Davidson held a four-point lead 98-94. The Wildcats would go on a 7-0 run to end the game as the Pioneers fell 102-94.

Phil Bledsoe paced the Pioneers playing 38 minutes leading the Blue and White with a game-high 26 points. He finished the contest going 7-15 from deep while pulling down nine rebounds.

Freshman
Steven Verplancken would follow behind Bledsoe with 21 points and dished out six assists.
Â
Hagel Augustin chipped in with 15 points and had three steals and the only block for the Pioneers.
Noah Frampton the brother of Davidsons Luke Frampton also had 15 points on the night.

Davidson was led by Kellan Grady as he also scored a game-high 26 points in 37 minutes going 9-17 from the field. Luke Frampton scored 20 points to go six assists.

The Pioneers will return home and host the Glenville State Tip-Off Classic on November 9

th. The Blue and White will square off against Bloomsburg University at 4pm on the 9
th and Clarion at 5pm on the 10
th.
