Pioneer Basketball Conquers the Huskies in Home Opener

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers gained their first season win while also hitting the century mark defeating Bloomsburg University from inside the Waco Center Saturday, 103-92.
 
Glenville State's (1-0) Tyvon Taylor had a great showing leading the Blue and White with 23 points while hitting three three-pointers from deep while dishing out four assists.
 
The Pioneers jumped out to an early 9-3 lead over Bloomsburg (0-1) after buckets by Steven Verplancken, Tyvon Taylor and a deep three by Phil Bledsoe.
 
The Pioneers would continue to go onto a short 9-4 run maintaining an eight-point lead against the Huskies at 16-7 with 15:14 left in the first.
 
The Blue and White made a ten-point separation by going on a 14-8 run to extend their lead to 29-15 with a layup by Noah Frampton and then Rodney Ray.
 
Glenville State continued to go to town on Bloomsburg going on a deep 13-5 run to put the Pioneers on top 37-20. The Huskies would cut the deficit by retuning a 10-3 run before Frampton connected with the making the score 39-30.
 
GSC and BU then went back and fourth trading several baskets but the Pioneers held a 52-39 lead going into the half.
 
Glenville State shot 21-for-42 from the field, and 33.3% from the arc, where as Bloomsburg went 14-42 only shooting 33.3% in the first half.
 
Steven Verplancken and Tyvon Taylor were fouled to start the second half, making four straight free throws.  Glenville continued on another 8-4 run to lead 67-43.
 
The Huskies pushed a 26-14 run to knock their deficit to 79-69, the first BU trailed by 10 since the five minutes prior to end of the first half.
 
Rodney Ray would try to stop the Huskie momentum with a layup, but committed a foul to add another two free-throws for BU. Ray then found Bledsoe in the corner for a three ball to continue their lead 87-73.
 
Taylor's layup hit the first century mark for the Blue and White this season as the Pioneers took the game 103-92.
 
Bledsoe shot 8-for-19 with 19 total points and hitting three three-pointerd.
 
Noah Frampton and Rodney Ray both chipped 17 points each. Frampton notched three steels and one block, where as Ray had an assists and two steals.
 
Verplancken added 11 to the score with six assists pacing 32 minutes. Ty Robinson recorded six blocks in 22 minutes.
 
Huskies Justin Anderson lead Bloomsburg with 25 total points and two assists, along with Max Wagner following 18 points.
 
The Pioneers are looking to extern their win streak as they take on Clarion tomorrow at 5pm
