Pioneers Shock No.6 Notre Dame on the Road

South Euclid, Ohio – The Pioneers of Glenville State went on the road, Saturday and upset the No. 6 Falcons of Notre Dame College in OT, 23-20.
 
Glenville State (6-4, 5-4 MEC) finished with 382 total yards on 61 plays while Notre Dame (9-1, 8-1 MEC) tallied just 276 total yards on 66 plays.
 
Glenville State would strike first at the 12:56 minute mark as the Pioneers pulled out a trick play as Javon Butler hit Caleb Wynn on a 57-yard touchdown pass. Justin Watts PAT would give GSC an early 7-0 lead.
 
The Pioneers then had another chance to add to their lead however a 53-yard field goal attempt from Watts would be short as GSC still held a touchdown lead with 4:20 to play in the first quarter as Notre Dame took over possession.
 
GSC's defense then made a play as Dominic Cizauskas forced a Falcon fumble as Dane Lynch recovered it for the Pioneers. But Glenville State could not convert the turnover into points as Watts missed another field goal, this one from 43-yards out, as the Pioneers took a 7-0 lead into the second quarter.
 
Watts would redeem himself by connecting on a 27-yard field goal to increase the Pioneer lead to 10-0 before the half.
 
After the half, NDC would come out storming as the Falcons quarterback Chris Brimm connected with Jaleel McLaughlin from five yards out to cut the Pioneer's lead to 10-7 with 8:25 to play in the third.
 
GSC offense answered back as Butler hauled in a 16-yard touchdown pass from McNair at the 4:41 minute mark as GSC went back up 17-7.
 
The Pioneers took that 17-7 lead into the fourth.
 
In the fourth, Notre Dame would pull within one score as Tanner Harding hit a 40-yard field goal at the 12:17 mark making it 17-10.
 
Then late in the fourth, Notre Dame's McLaughlin would tie the game up at 17 all on a one-yard touchdown run with only 3:32 left to play.
 
The Blue and White were unable to score in their last possession as we headed into OT knotted up at 17 all.
 
The Falcons would start the overtime with the ball, the Pioneers defense would hold them to a 38-yard field goal by Harding as Notre Dame lead 20-17.
 
The Blue and White's next offensive possession ended the game as McNair found Butler from 25 yards' out, their second touchdown hookup of the game, as the Pioneers defeated the No. 6 Notre Dame Falcons 23-20.
 
GSC rushed for 59 total yards while NDC finished with 191 yards on the ground. The Pioneers defense also forced NDC into two, turnovers.
 
Both teams finished the day 2-for-3 in the red zone.
 
Mario Pender carried the ball 18 times for 45 yards, while Seth Arnold rushed three times for ten yards.
 
Quarterback, Jaylen McNair went 19-for-30 for 266 yards and two scorers. Javon Butler also went 1-for-1 in the air for 57 yards and a TD.
 
Butler, also had 122 yards receiving on seven catches with two touchdowns. Osai Brown caught three balls for 97 yards.
 
Defensively, Dominic Cizauskas had a game high 14 tackles while also having an interception and forced fumble. Wil Mayes finished with 11 total tackles.
 
Jaleel McLaughlin finished with 187 rushing yards on 37 carries for NDC.
 
Quarterback Chris Brimm finished the day 13 of 23 with a touchdown and an interception.
 
Marvelle Ross caught five passes for 44 yards.
 
Guam Lee finished with 10 tackles for the Falcons defense, while Bryce Sheppert tallied seven.
 
Glenville State (6-4, 5-4 MEC) will close the season at home next Saturday November 16th at 12pm as they host Frostburg State on Senior Day.
