Glenville, W.Va. – The Pioneers improved to 7-2 on the year and 4-1 in conference as GSC defeated the Bobcats of Frostburg State University (2-7, 1-4 MEC) on Wednesday night. The Pioneers hit the century mark for the fourth time this season after becoming victorious in a 119-89 contest.
Phil Bledsoe who had a game high of 31 points and 13 rebounds earned his 22
nd career double-double and it was his 7
th time scoring 30 plus points as a Pioneer.
How It Happened
First Half:
Steven Verplancken and
Hegel Augustin would net the first buckets of the contest with two triples and dunk to lead FSU early, 8-2.
Both teams traded baskets back and forth at nine a piece with a three shot by Augustin and layup by
Ty Robinson to maintain their 17-11 lead.
Phil Bledsoe would add two, triples to push the Pioneer lead to 10 with 13 minutes remaining in the half.
Midway through the half,
Rodney Ray Noah Frampton and Verplancken would add a triple-triple and back to back baskets from the strip to keep the Pioneers ahead 38-23.
The Pioneers would go on a 16-4 run and force a Bobcat timeout as Augustin connects with the net from deep.
Tyvon Taylor would follow with a basket from the strip after the timeout.
Ty Robinson connected with Verplancken for a dunk followed with basket from the line by
Rodney Ray to finish the scoring in the half, leading 63-39.
GSC shot 20-for-42 from the floor, shooting 50% from deep and 28 total rebounds.
FSU shot 18-for-40 from the field and 1-for-9 from behind the arc.
Second Half:
Verplancken and Frampton continued the advantage at 27 early in the half with a jump shot and basket from deep.
Bledsoe continued to maintain the Pioneers at a double-digit advantage as he went on a 7-0 run to put the Pioneers up 75-45 with 15 minutes remaining.
Both teams would again trade baskets back and forth at 13 piece as Frampton would go 2-for-2 at the stripe while adding a basket from deep to maintain the Pioneer lead 92-60.
Bledsoe added his fifth, triple of the night to hit the Pioneers century mark at 100-66.
GSC and FSU went up and down the court scoring 19 a piece with buckets by
Jaeger Martino and
Noah Harris to win the contest 119-89.
Inside the Box Score
The Blue and White shot 40-for-86 from the floor with 42% from deep with 51 rebounds on the night. The Pioneers had nine blocks with just 46 points in the paint.
Steven Verplancken score 20 total points connecting with four Pioneers while shooting 5-for-9 from deep.
Noah Frampton followed with 18 points, and six assists with
Hegel Augustin behind at 17 points and three assists.
Ty Robinson had a career high of seven blocks in the contest with one steel.
Frostburg also shot 40-for-84 from the field but just 2-for-17 from deep with 55 bench points and 27 second chance points.
FSU was lead by Bo Schene as he was the only Bobcat to score double digits.
