Tiger’s Second Half Grounds Pioneers Ending 2019

Glenville, W.Va. –  Glenville State (8-3) fell short to the Tigers of Salem University (5-6) in a non conference matchup 103-92. The Tigers exploded in the second half propelling them to the victory.  
 
Phil Bledsoe had another great showing scoring 24 points notching 10 rebounds and two steals.
 
How It Happened
 
First Half:
 
Phil Bledsoe opened the contest for the Blue and White with a jumper followed by shot from downtown by Steven Verplancken to lead the Tigers 5-2.  
 
The Tigers would answer back to tie the Pioneers early 12 all with 12:10 remaining in the half. Out of the media timeout, Bledsoe and Seth Fallon connected with Noah Frampton for back to back triples to regain their lead.  
 
Salem would recover the lead out scoring GSC 9-4 to lead the Pioneers 26-23 with 8:30 remaining.
 
The lead would trade hands several times before the Tigers capped off on a short 11-3 run to lead 44-37 with under three minutes left in the half.
 
Bledsoe and Ty Robinson answered back with a 5-0 run to trail 48-42 going into the half.
 
GSC shot just 42% from the floor and 4-for-15 from deep where SU scored 52% from the field and 43% from behind the arc.
 
Second Half:
 
The Tigers came out of the half going on an early 10-2 run. Ty Robinson connected with Hegel Augustin to end the Salem run. Steven Verplancken would reduce their lead by scoring from deep while Noah Frampton converted a pair from the line to trail 58-51.
 
Both teams would trade baskets back and forth until Ray added a layup and basket from the stripe to trail by four. Bledsoe and Frampton would both knock down a triple outscoring the Tigers 7-3 to trail 69-68.
 
Salem capped off with an 18-0 run to lead 87-68. Bledsoe connected with Frampton for a layup to end the Tiger run.
 
Ty Robinson would find Verplacnken in the field as both Pioneers would total a 9-3 run trailing 90-79.
 
Hegel Augustin added a bucket from deep and went 2-for-2 at the line to outscore the Tigers 10-6 to reduce the Pioneer deficit back to single digits 89-79 with 2:03 left in the game.
 
With one-minute remaining the Pioneers trailed 100-89.
Augustin would convert a pair from the line as the Tigers responded 2-for-3 at the line.
 
The Pioneers would fall 103-92.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
The Pioneers would go 34-for-78 and 38% from deep. GSC scored 24 points off turnovers totaling 23 assists.
 
Noah Frampton totaled 20 points shooting 5-for-8 from deep with a game high five assists
 
Hegel Augustin scored 14 total points with eight rebounds and three assists.
 
Steven Verplancken carried four assists and shot 5-for-10 from the field.

The Pioneers will break for the Christmas Holidays and return to action January 3rd 2020 at St. Augustin University.
