Lady Pioneers Earn Second Conference Win Over Undefeated NDC

South Euclid, OH – Glenville State Lady Pioneers become victorious over the Falcons of Notre Dame College 93-73. GSC handed NDC their first loss of the season while improving to 4-3 on the year and 2-1 in conference.
 
Zakiyah Winfield had another great showing scoring 18 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Winfield shot 7-for-9 form the floor and 4-for-4 from the strip.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
First Quarter:
 
Victoria Brown and Zakiyah Winfield would open the contents with a pair of layups to push an 11-2 run, early.
 
Emily Stoller would hit her first three of the night followed by a back to back shots from behind the strip form Re'Shawna Stone and Ty Armstrong going 4-for-4 to lead the Fighting Falcons 15-4 with 6:28 left in the first quarter.
 
Glenville State ended the first quarter by outscoring Notre Dame 14-12 to push their advantage to 28-16 with layups by Taychaun Hubbard and buckets from behind the arc by Emily Stoller.
 
Second Quarter:
 
GSC started the second quarter on a 5-0 run as Armstrong connected with Brown from deep to continue the Lady Pioneer momentum leading 33-16.
 
NDC responded by putting another five shots of their own to cut their deficit back to 12.
 
Both teams would trade baskets back and forth, GSC maintaining their 12 point at 16 a piece before a tip-in by Lucille Westfall and layup by Winfield sent NDC into the locker room trailing 51-34.
 
At the half, the Lady Pioneers shot 51% from the floor but just 3-for-12 from behind the arc grabbing 20 rebounds. NDC shot just 14-for-30 from the floor with just 2-for-9 from deep notching 16 rebounds.
 
Third Quarter:
 
Stone started the third with a jump shot and back to back layups by Abby Stoller and Kaneshia Afi to push their advantage to a 21-point lead.
 
Afi, Stone, Hubbard and Brown all added buckets in a back and forth battle with Notre Dame who also scored eight a piece with under three minutes remaining.
 
Notre Dame then answered back by going on a 12-7 rally to head into the fourth still trailing 70-54.
 
Fourth Quarter:
 
The fourth started with a layup by Zakiyah Winfield and two freebies by Victoria Brown.
 
The Lady Pioneers went on a 13-6 run to push their lead to 23. GSC would end the contest with a layup by stone to win 93-73.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
GSC shot 37-for-76 from the field and shooting 16-for-18 from the strip while grabbing 48 total rebounds. The Lady Pioneers notched 13 steals with 56 points in the paint and 25 second chance points.
 
Emily Stoller had three steals and eight rebounds going 2-for-5 from behind the arc while connecting with three Lady Pioneers for three assists.
 
Taychaun Hubbard scored 17 total points shooting 3-for-3 free throws with grabbing four rebounds and a block.
 
Notre Dame also shot 48% with only 2-for-15 from deep with shooting 70% from the free throw line. The Falcons was lead by Jessie Stout and Jennifer Oduho who both had 12 points each.
 
Up Next
 
The Lady Pioneers will return to action Saturday December 7th at 2:00pm to host the Blue Knights of Urbana University in the Waco Center.
