Pioneers Suffer Home Loss to NDC Falcons

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State men's basketball team had all five starters score in double figures however it wasn't enough as they fell at home on Thursday evening to the Falcons of Notre Dame College, 106-98.

Glenville State (9-14, 4-13) shot 51 percent in the contest from the field and went 14-of-34 from deep for 41 percent. Notre Dame (17-6, 13-4) shot 57 percent from the floor but shot just 28 percent from deep.

The Pioneers got off to a great start as they took an early 6-0 lead off of two three-pointers. GSC took that great start and eventually built a nine point lead, 34-25, with 9:06 to play until halftime. However, the Falcons then went on to outscore the Pioneers 34-17 in the remainder of the first as they took an eight point lead into intermission, 59-51.

Glenville State started the second half on a 17-8 run as they regained a one point lead at the 14:57 minute mark, 68-67. Both teams went back and forth as we ended tied up at 77 all with 11:15 left in the contest.

After the tie Notre Dame went on and outscored GSC 17-8 as they went up by nine, 94-85 with less than five minutes to play. Notre Dame took that run and then stretched their lead to 13 points with under two minutes left, 103-90.

Glenville State would attempt one last comeback but the Falcons proved to be too much as the Pioneers fell by eight, 106-98.

The game saw five lead changes and six ties.

Glenville State's largest lead of the game was by nine points which came in the first half while Notre Dame's was by 13 which came late in the second.

Notre Dame had a huge advantage on the inside outscoring GSC 58-36 in the paint and out rebounded the Pioneers 45-29.

Again GSC had all five starters score in double figures with Elisha Mayberry scoring a team-high 23 points as he went 5-of-8 from deep. Jamal Pollydore finished with 21 points and eight assists.

Noah Frampton chipped in with 18 points and five assists while Phil Bledsoe scored 16 points and had seven rebounds. Kalin Johnson chipped in with 10 points on the night.

Will Vorhees scored a game-high 44 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as he posted a double-double. Larenz Thurman scored 25 points and dished out a game-high six assists.

Glenville State (9-14, 4-13) will host the Urbana University Blue Knights this Saturday, February 16th at 3 p.m. from inside the Waco Center.
