Pioneers Win Double OT Contest at Home over Urbana

Glenville, W.Va. – Glenville State's Phil Bledsoe drilled a three-pointer in the second overtime with 26 second left as he lifted the Pioneers past the Urbana University Blue Knights in double overtime on Saturday, 100-97.

Glenville State (10-14, 5-13) scored 47 points in the paint and shot 44 percent from field. Urbana (5-17, 3-15) shot 41 percent from the field and scored 36 points in the paint.

The Pioneers raced out to a six-point halftime lead over the Blue Knights, 43-37. Glenville State went 6-of-15 from deep in the first half.

In the second half, Urbana outscored GSC 41-35 as they tied it up and sent it to overtime, 78-78.

In the first OT, the Pioneers and Blue Knights went back and forth as neither team held more than a four-point lead. GSC and UU both scored 12 points each in the first OT. However, GSC's Jamal Pollydore had a chance to end the game as he heaved it from half court but his shot wouldn't go as we stayed knotted at 90-90.

In the second OT, GSC would score first as Elisha Mayberry scored on a layup, 92-90. The Pioneers then got a dunk from Jamal Pollydore as they went up by four, 94-90. Urbana finally got on the board at the 2:53 minute mark as they pulled within two, 94-92.

Elisha Mayberry answered again for the Pioneers to put GSC back up by four at, 96-92, with 1:19 left. UU's Datrey Long would hit two free-throws to pull back within two, 96-94, with 1:08 to play.

A costly turnover by the Pioneers gave the ball back to Urbana and the Blue Knights tied it up after two free-throws at 96 all with 40 seconds left.

Phil Bledsoe would come up big as he drilled a three-pointer with only 26 second left which would put the Pioneers up for good as they went onto win by three, 100-97.

Glenville State only managed to hit two three-pointers in the second half and both overtimes.

The contest had 12 ties and saw 16 lead changes.

The Pioneers largest lead of the game came in first by 12 points while Urbana's was by three which came in the second.

Glenville State outscored Urbana in the paint 47-36 while also winning the rebounding battle 56-45.

GSC finished the day shooting 26 percent from deep while Urbana shot 44 percent from behind the arc.

Phil Bledsoe posted a double-double in the win scoring 28 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Noah Frampton chipped in with 22 points and eight assists.

Jamal Pollydore scored 17 points and dished out four assists before fouling out. Elisha Mayberry also posted a double-double in the win scoring 14 points and pulled down 10 boards.

Kalin Johnson finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Urbana was led by Datrey Long as he scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as he posted a double-double. Malik Jacobs posted 23 points while Matt Treacy chipped in with 19 points.

Glenville State (10-14, 5-13) will hit the road this Wednesday, February 20th as they travel Wheeling Jesuit University. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. against the Cardinal.
