Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers won their 35
th straight game at home on Thursday evening as they outlasted the Notre Dame College Falcons, 85-79.
Glenville State (21-2) used the second quarter to make separation from Notre Dame (12-11, 9-8) as they outscored them 24-15 in the quarter and took a five point
lead into halftime, 46-41. Â
The Lady Pioneers came out in the third quarter and went on a 17-2 run as they took a commanding 19 point lead, 63-44 with 3:00 to play in the quarter. However, NDC ended the third on a 10-2 run as they pulled within 11, 65-54.
In the fourth, the Falcons started the quarter on an 8-4 run as they cut the Lady Pioneers lead to single digits at four, 69-62 with 8:08 to play.
But another 9-4 run by GSC stretched their lead back out to 11 points with 5:30 left, 77-66.
Notre Dame again would bounce back and cut Glenville's lead to just three points at the 2:54 minute mark, 80-77. However, Re'Shawna Stone would hit a desperation three as the shot clock expired lifting GSC back up by six, 83-77 with 1:33 to play.
Notre Dame came back down and Seina Adachi connected on a two-pointer to pull the Falcons within four, 83-79 with under a minute to play.
Glenville State then came up with several defensive stands and hit its free-throws down the stretch as they defeated the Notre Dame Falcons, 85-79.
The contest had 11 lead changes and five ties. Glenville State's largest lead of the game came in the second half as they led by 19 while Notre Dame's was by eight points which came in the first half.
The Lady Pioneers defense forced Notre Dame into 21 turnovers and converted them into 25 points. GSC also scored 25 second chance points while NDC had just five.
Glenville State shot 34 percent from the field and went just 9-of-34 from deep for 26 percent. Notre Dame shot 44 percent from the floor and also hit nine three-pointers in the game as they finished shooting 26 percent as well from deep.
Donasja Scott led GSC as she posted her third double-double of the year scoring a game-high 20 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Re'Shawna Stone chipped in with 18 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Ty Armstrong finished with 17 points on the evening while
Zakiyah Winfield posted 10 points in the victory.
Notre Dame College was led by Seina Adachi as she scored 19 points while dishing out two assists. Jessie Stout scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as she finished with a double-double.
Glenville State (21-2, 16-1) will host the Urbana University Blue Knights on Saturday, February 16
th at 1 p.m. from inside the Waco Center.
