Softball Falls to East Stroudsburg, Downs IUP in Game Two

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer Softball split the 2019 opening weekend at home on Sunday. GSC fell to the Warriors of East Stroudsburg in the first game of the afternoon while they defeated the IUP Crimson Hawks in the second game.

Game one; saw GSC tally three hits while committing six errors in the contest.

East Stroudsburg tallied nine hits and had four errors as they picked up the 15-5 win.

Ashley Fridley went 1-for-1 and scored a run while she also pitched 1.2 innings allowing 10 runs on five hits with two strike outs. Karra Smith went 1-for-3 with a homerun.

In the second contest of the day GSC and the Crimson Hawks of IUP would go down to the wire.

Glenville State struck first in the first as Karra Smith hit an RBI single to right field as Paranda Uber and Ally Brown both crossed the plate as the Lady Pioneers held a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Pioneers then added to their lead in the second inning as Catherine Pelfrey reached base on an error which then saw Landri Mays score as they led 3-0.

IUP got on the scoreboard in the third off of a two run homer as they pulled within one, 3-2. Both teams then went scoreless as we headed into the seventh inning. IUP found themselves with the tying run on second base after a base hit and stolen base by Shayanne Kimmel with just one out.

However, Glenville State came up big as they got two outs which ended the game as they held on to defeat the IUP Crimson Hawks, 3-2.

Karra Smith went 1-for-3 with two RBI's while Landri Mays went 1-for-2.   

Celina Maberto pitched the entire contest as she allowed just two runs on four hits while striking out two batters.

Glenville State finished with five hits and three errors while IUP had four hits and one error.

Glenville State (1-1) will return to action on Tuesday, February 26th when they host Alderson Broaddus in a double-header at 2 p.m.
