Second Half Propels Pioneers Past Rams

Shepherdstown, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer men's basketball used a 19-6 run to end the game as they defeated the Rams of Shepherd University, 78-65.

Glenville State (11-16, 6-15) shot 45 percent from the field and 41 percent from deep hitting 12-of-29 three-pointers. Shepherd (13-14, 9-12) shot 30 percent from the field and just 20 percent from deep going just 6-of-29.

The Rams raced out to an early 10 point lead halfway through the first at 20-10. However, the Pioneers then went on a monstrous run to end the first half sparked by back-to-back three-pointers by Phil Bledsoe. Glenville State outscored the Rams 29-7 in the last 10:00 minutes as GSC took a 12 point lead into halftime, 39-27.

Shepherd opened up the second half with a three as they cut the Pioneers lead to nine, 39-30. The Rams then pulled within seven at the 15:54 minute mark as they went on a 12-5 run. Shepherd then made another run outscoring GSC 11-7 as they cut the Pioneers lead to just three, 53-50 with 10:57 to play.

Then at the 6:56 minute mark the Rams tied it up at 59 all on a Thomas Lang jumper.

After that tie it would be all GSC as they never looked back. The Pioneers ended the game on a 19-6 run as they picked up the 13 point victory, 78-65.

The contest saw four ties and just one lead change.

The Pioneers won the rebounding battle 41-39. GSC also had a big lift from their bench as they outscored the Rams bench 22-8.

Phil Bledsoe paced the Pioneers with 21 points and 11 rebounds as he recorded his 16th double-double of the season. Jamal Pollydore chipped in with 17 points while Kalin Johnson finished with 13 points.

Noah Frampton finished with 12 points and five assists for GSC.

Shepherd was led by Thomas Lang and Jon Preston as they both scored 16 points each.

Glenville State (11-16, 6-15) will host the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan this Saturday, March 2nd at 4 p.m. on Senior Day and Winter Homecoming.
