Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers received two 30 point performances on Thursday night from
Jamal Pollydore and
Phil Bledsoe as they combined for 61 points as they defeated the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State University, 101-88.
Glenville State (9-12, 4-11) shot 50 percent from the field while West Virginia State (11-10, 8-7) finished the night shooting 41 percent from the floor.
Early in the first the Yellow Jackets would jump out to an early six point lead at the 15:16 minute mark, 16-10. However over the next couple of minutes the Pioneers went on a 22-7 run as they jumped out to a six point lead of their own, 29-23, with 7:21 to play till halftime.
GSC then later stretched their lead to 10 at the half as
Jamal Pollydore netted a three-pointer as the Pioneers went in up, 48-38.
Glenville State came out in the second half and started on a 21-14 run and they stretched their lead to 19 points at the 13:01 minute mark, 71-52. However, West Virginia State then went on a huge run outscoring GSC 28-13 as they pulled within just four, 84-80 with fewer than three minutes left.
The Pioneers would prove to be too much for the Yellow Jackets on this night. GSC outscored WVSU 17-8 in the last three minutes of the game as they went on to claim the 13 point victory, 101-88.
It's the second straight win for the Pioneers. There was just one lead change and one tie on the night.
The Yellow Jackets held the advantage in the paint outscoring the Pioneers 53 to 38.
GSC finished shooting 37 percent from deep while WVSU finished the game shooting just 20 percent from behind the arc.
Jamal Pollydore scored 31 points tying his career-high as a Pioneer. Pollydore also dished out a game-high seven assists and grabbed six rebounds.
Phil Bledsoe also had a great night as he posted his fifth straight double-double scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds.
Elisha Mayberry chipped in with 16 points.
West Virginia State was led by Pat Johnson-Agwu as he scored 28 points and grabbed eight boards.
Glenville State (9-12, 4-11) will hit the road on Saturday, February 9
th as they travel to the University of Charleston for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Golden Eagles.
