Pioneers Drop Road Contest at UC

Charleston, W.Va. – The Glenville State men's basketball team went on the road Saturday and suffered a tough loss to the University of Charleston Golden Eagles, 102-73.

Glenville State (9-13, 4-11) had a tough day shooting the ball. The Pioneers finished the game shooting 40 percent from the floor and 33 percent from deep. Charleston (15-7, 10-6) on the other hand, shot great from the field hitting 40-of-69 from the field for 58 percent and hit 18 three-pointers as they finished shooting 52 percent from behind the arc.

Charleston got off to a great start as they jumped out to a 22 point lead over GSC, 26-4, aat the 12:39 minute mark. Glenville State tried to get back into it and they went on a 15-11 run as they pulled within 18, 37-19 with 4:26 to play until halftime.

However the Golden Eagles then went on to outscore the Pioneers 15-7 to end the first half as they took a 26 point lead into halftime, 52-26.

GSC managed to go just 2-of-12 from deep in the first half while UC went 8-for-16 from behind the arc.

In the second half of action it was all UC as GSC could not make a run. The Golden Eagles went on to outscore the Pioneers 50-47 in the second half as they defeated Glenville State, 102-73.

Charleston led the entire game and their largest lead of the contest was by 44 points.

Glenville State was outscored by 10 in the paint by UC, 44-34. The Pioneers scored 19 second chance points while the Golden Eagles had eight.

Kalin Johnson led the Pioneers in scoring as he scored 11 points. Jamal Pollydore and Howard Smith each chipped in with 10 points. Smith also pulled down six rebounds.

Phil Bledsoe scored just seven points as he went 3-of-15 from the field. Bledsoe did grab eight boards in the game.

Charleston had six players in double figures with Seth O'Neal scoring a game-high 20 points as he was perfect from deep going 5-for-5 from behind the arc. Adam Traore scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds while Keith Williams chipped in with 15 points.

Glenville State (9-13, 4-11) will host the Falcons of Notre Dame College this coming Thursday, February 14th Valentine's Day. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
