Charleston, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer basketball team went on the road Saturday and defeated the University of Charleston Golden Eagles by 11 points 108-97 as they collected their 11th straight win.
Glenville State (20-2, 15-1) had a good afternoon shooting the ball as they went 13-of-26 from deep for 50 percent and 36-for-73 for 49 percent from the field. Charleston (18-4, 13-3) also shot well from the floor going 36-for-60 for 60 percent but went 3-of-10 from deep for 30 percent.
The Lady Pioneers jumped out to an early 14-6 lead at the 4:47 minute mark. The Golden Eagles proceeded to go on a 12-6 run as they cut GSC's lead to just two as Raziyah Farrington scored on a three-point play making it 20-18 with only 21 seconds left in the quarter.
The Lady Pioneers managed to take a four-point lead into the second quarter leading UC by four, 22-18.
Charleston continued their strong play as they started the second quarter on a 12-7 run and took their first lead of the contest at the 6:08 minute mark, 30-29. However, GSC managed to then tie it up at 37 all at the 3:34 minute mark.
Glenville State outscored Charleston 14-8 in the last three minutes of the quarter as the Lady Pioneers took a six-point lead into halftime, 51-45.
The Lady Pioneers started the third on a 23-16 run as they built a 13-point lead, 76-63 with under three minutes left in the quarter. But UC ended the third on a 12-5 run as they cut GSC's lead to six points, 81-75.
The fourth saw the Golden Eagles take a one-point lead at the 7:41 minute mark, 82-81, as they started the quarter on a 7-0 run. Glenville State then went on a 13-2 run of their own, as they netted back-to-back-to-back three-pointers, building a 10-point lead 94-84 with 4:43 left to play.
The Lady Pioneers then outscored the Golden Eagles down the stretch 14-13 as they picked up the 11-point road win, 108-97.
There were eight lead changes and three ties in the contest.
It's the 38th time
Kim Stephens has led the Lady Pioneers to score over 100 points. The Lady Pioneers currently stand at 38-0 Â while scoring over 100 points a game.Â
Glenville State scored 22 fast break points on the day while UC had 17. The Lady Pioneers also had 24 points off of 15 Charleston turnovers.
The Lady Pioneers had six players post double figures with
Ty Armstrong scoring a team-high 25 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Ty's scored 17 of her 25 points in the second half and scored 13 of them in the fourth.
Courtney Davis posted 20 points while
Emily Stoller chipped in with 18 points as she hit four three-pointers.
Donasja Scott scored 15 points and had five boards while Re'Shawna Stone chipped in with 11 points and had four assists.
Taychaun Hubbard finished the contest with 10 points.
Charleston got a huge game from Raziyah Farrington as she poured in a game-high 36 points. Anna Hayton posted 17 points and grabbed five rebounds while Brooklyn Pannell chipped in with 13 points.
Glenville State (20-2, 15-1) will host the Notre Dame College Falcons this Thursday, February 14th Valentine's Day. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from inside the Waco Center.
