Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer baseball team dropped a tough home contest on Friday evening to the Mansfield University Mountaineers.
Glenville State struck first in the bottom of the fourth. The Pioneers started the inning off with
Tyler Phillips reaching first base on a walk. Phillips then advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Logan Henderson, who filed out to right field, advanced Phillips to third base.
Carter Boswell then struck out however
Tre'von Smith stole second, after he was walked, and
Tyler Phillips crossed the plate on the throw as GSC led 1-0.
Mansfield tied it up at 1-1 in the fifth inning as Brittain Shander scored on a wild pitch. Then later in the inning they took a 2-1 lead as they tallied two hits in the inning.
Mansfield added to their lead in the sixth as Jacob Haas recorded an RBI as Dominick Lopez crossed the plate as they went up, 3-1.
The Pioneers answered back in the bottom of the sixth inning as
Carter Boswell hit into a double play but not before
Logan Henderson scored making it, 3-2.
Glenville State had a chance in the seventh with the bases load but would come up short as they ended up falling by one, 3-2.
Glenville State recorded five hits and committed one error while Mansfield registered five hits as well.
Logan Henderson went 1-for-4 while
Tre'von Smith went 1-for-2.
Ryan Colaw finished the day 2-for-3.
Andrue Hughart pitched six innings allowing three runs on four hits while striking out a season high 11 batters. Â Â
Glenville State (0-5) will return to action tomorrow Saturday, March 2
nd as they host Millersville University at 12:45 p.m. from the Sue Morris Sports Complex.
