Glenville, W.Va. - The Lady Pioneer softball team split a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon to the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears.
Glenville State tallied 12 hits in game one and committed four errors while the Lady Pioneer pitchers gave up 11 hits to the Golden Bears while they also committed four errors.
The Lady Pioneers scored first in the first as
Karra Smith hit an RBI single to second base scoring
Ashley Fridley and then
Landri Mays had ab RBI scoring
Karra Smith as they led 2-0.
However, WV Tech answered in the bottom of the first as they scored four runs on four hits as they took a two run lead, 4-2.
In the second inning GSC reclaimed the lead as they added four runs on two hits and went up 6-4.
The Lady Pioneers added three runs in the third as they took a commanding lead over the Golden Bears, 9-4. But again the Golden Bears answered in the bottom of the third as they pulled within two runs, 9-7.
Both teams added a run in the fourth as Glenville State held on to the 10-8 win.
Karra Smith went 3-for-4 with five RBI's while
Landri Mays went 3-for-4 with and RBI.
Celina Maberto earned her third win on the mound as she pitched 4.1 innings allowing one run on four hits with one strike out.
Game two would see the Lady Pioneers fall as Kelsey Moore hit a walk off home run in the seventh as they came from behind to defeat GSC, 4-3.
The Lady Pioneers held a 1-0 lead early after the first inning as
Karra Smith drove in
Paranda Uber.
West Virginia Tech took their first lead in the bottom of the second as they scored three runs on three hits as they led, 3-1.
GSC added a run in the fourth and then later tied it up in seventh on a
Jeri Potter RBI single scoring Kesley Naylor at 3-3. But the Golden Bears walk off homer would give the Lady Pioneers their 12th loss of the year.
Karra Smith went 2-for-3 with an RBI and
Jeri Potter went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Sidney Shepheard picked up the loss as she gave up one run on one hit.
Glenville State (6-12, 1-3) will hit the road this weekend as they travel to UVa-Wise on Saturday and then Concord Univeristy on Sunday. Both games are doubleheader and are set for 1 p.m.
