Softball Swept by Cavaliers of UVa-Wise

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer softball team dropped a doubleheader on the road Saturday to the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise.

UVa-Wise got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third. Alexis Miles homered to left center as she scored Ava Hockey from second base as they led 2-0.

The Lady Pioneers managed to tie the game up at 2-2 in the top of the fourth. Landri Mays singled to center scoring Kelsey Naylor and then Kassidy Heavner grounded out to third base as Kelsey Naylor crossed the plate.

The Cavaliers then broke the tie in the bottom of the fourth inning as they scored three runs on four hits as they took a three run lead, 5-2.

UVa-Wise eventually added another run in the fifth as they defeated the Lady Pioneers in game one, 6-2.

Glenville State managed just two hits while committing two errors. UVa-Wise tallied nine hits in the win.

Landri Mays went 1-for-3 with an RBI while Kassidy Heavner also recorded an RBI.

Celina Maberto pitched 3.1 innings allowing five runs on six hits while Tori Ward pitched 2.2 innings allowing one run on one hit to go with a strike out.

Glenville State struck first in the first as Landri Mays singled to third scoring Catherine Pelfrey. Kelsey Naylor hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring Karra Smith as the Lady Pioneers led 2-0.

The Cavaliers came right back in the bottom of the first as they took a three run lead at 5-2 as they scored five runs off of four hits. UVa-Wise then added another run in the fourth as they now led 6-2.

The Cavaliers proved to be too much for the Lady Pioneers as they went on to defeat GSC, 9-2.

Glenville State finished game two with five hits while committing one error. UVa-Wise recorded nine hits and committed two errors.

Ally Brown went 2-for-3 while Landri Mays finished the game with an RBI as she went 1-for-3.

Ally Brown pitched just 0.1 innings allowing five runs on four hits with two strike outs while Tori Ward pitched three innings allowing one run and striking out two batters. Celina Maberto pitched 2.2 innings allowing three hits and three runs while also striking out three batters.

GSC (6-14, 1-5) is on a three game losing streak and will look to end it against Concord University tomorrow Sunday, March 24th in a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
