Pioneer Baseball Drops Two Games on the Road at Urbana

Urbana, Ohio – The Glenville State Pioneers baseball team dropped a conference doubleheader on the road Sunday to the Blue Knights of Urbana University.

Game one saw the Pioneers take a 4-0 lead heading into the fourth inning. However, Urbana pulled within one run in the bottom of the fourth as they scored three runs making it, 4-3.

The Blue Knights then added three more runs on three hits as they went on to take the first game from the Pioneers, 6-4.

Glenville State finished with six hits while committing one error. Urbana tallied 10 hits and committed two errors.

Tyler Phillips went 1-for-3 with two RBI's. Chase Swain and Zach Bacon each recorded an RBI.

Jose Rodriguez pitched the entire game allowing six runs on 10 hits while striking out six batters.

Game two the Pioneers out hit the Blue Knights 10-7 however it wasn't enough as GSC fell, 6-5.

Glenville State got on the board first in the first when Logan Henderson hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Colby Werry, 1-0.

However, Urbana then scored a run in the first, second, and third inning as they took a 3-1 lead.

GSC took control in the fourth as they scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead over UU. But in the bottom of the inning the Blue Knights scored two more runs and then added a run in the fifth as they took game two from the Pioneers, 6-5.

Glenville State committed four errors in the loss.

Colby Werry went 3-for-4 while Carter Boswell went 1-for-3 with two RBI's. Zach Bacon and Andrue Hughart both had an RBI in the contest.

Chase Swain pitched 4.0 innings allowing five runs on four hits with four strike outs.

Glenville State (7-19, 4-8) will return to action on Saturday, April 6th when they host the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise in a four game series. Game one is set for 1 p.m.
