Glenville, W.Va. - On Wednesday night the Glenville State Lady Pioneer softball team split a doubleheader with the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan from the Sue Morris Sports Complex.
Game one would end up going to extra innings as we were tied up at 6-6. GSC's
Karra Smith would end up being the hero in the bottom of the ninth walk-off single to center field scoring Makenna Nickle from second base as the Lady Pioneers defeated the Bobcats 7-6 in nine innings. It is the first win for Glenville State against West Virginia Wesleyan since March 25, 2015.
Glenville State took the early lead in the second inning as
Karra Smith scored on a passed ball putting the Lady Pioneers up, 1-0.
The Bobcats came back and took their first lead in the fifth inning scoring three runs on four hits to take a 3-1 lead.
Paranda Uber pulled GSC within one run in the fifth as she hit a solo home run to left field making it 3-2.
WVWC then added two runs in the sixth inning and one run in the seventh as they took a 6-2 lead. However there would be no surrender in the Lady Pioneers as they tied the contest up at 6-6 in bottom of the seventh.
Kierson Tavares got the scoring started on a single to right field scoring
Catherine Pelfrey. Then later
Kelsey Naylor singled to the shortstop as
Kierson Tavares crossed the plate.
Tori Ward also reached base on an error as
Paranda Uber scored and then
Kelsey Naylor tied it up at 6-6 as she scored on a wild pitch.
In the ninth,
Karra Smith walk-off single would end the game as GSC won 7-6.
Glenville State tallied eight hits while committing one error. West Virginia Wesleyan finished with nine hits and two errors.
Paranda Uber went 2-for-5 with an RBI while
Kelsey Naylor also went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Tori Ward,
Karra Smith and
Kierson Tavares all recorded an RBI in the contest.
Tori Ward earned the win as she pitched 3.2 innings allowing one runs on three hits.
Game two of the evening would go to the Bobcats by a final of 6-1.
The Lady Pioneer finished with two hits and an error while the Bobcats had 10 hits.

That, however would be the only score for GSC as WVWC took a one run lead in the fourth scoring two runs leading, 2-1. The Bobcats added a run in the fifth and three in the sixth as they defeated the Lady Pioneers 6-1.
Tori Ward went 1-for-3 with an RBI while
Ally Brown finished the game 1-for-3.
Tori Ward pitched 5.0 innings allowing four runs on six hits with one strike out.
Glenville State (11-26, 3-15) will return to action this Saturday, April 13th as they host the Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit. Game one is set for 1 p.m.
