Fairmont, W.Va. – The GSC Lady Pioneer Acrobatics & Tumbling team fell in the MEC Championship on Saturday afternoon to the Fighting Falcons of Fairmont State University, 269.450-257.695.
FSU took an early lead over GSC after the compulsory event 38.175 to 34.800. GSC's highest score came in the toss heat as they scored a 9.750 while FSU's highest score came in the pyramid heat scoring a 9.900.
The Lady Pioneers posted a score of 28.025 in the acro event however the Fighting Falcons won the event scoring a 28.475. Glenville State's highest score came in heat two (6 element) as they scored a 9.725. Fairmont State's highest score came in heat two (6 element) as well as they posted a 9.700.
Before halftime, GSC won the pyramid event as they scored a 29.575 to Fairmont State's 29.500. The Lady Pioneers posted two 9.925 scores with one coming in the heat one (inversion and heat three (open).
At halftime the Lady Pioneers trailed 96.150-92.400.
FSU just nudged GSC in the toss event as they scored a 27.475 to GSC's 26.475.
The Fighting Falcons also won the tumbling event over the Pioneers, 55.425 to 51.250. GSC's high score came in the open pass, scoring a 9,675. Fairmont State's high score came in the 6 element scoring a 9.825.
In the last event, the team event, FSU would take the team routine scoring a 90.400 over GSC's 87.570 as the Lady Pioneers fell in the MEC Championship, 269.450 to 257.695.
GSC, however, did win three individual event championships. They won the six-element acro scoring a 9.825, synchronized pyramid with a score of 9.85 and the six-element tumbling scoring a 9.35.
Glenville State (6-2) will now prepare for the NCATA Nationals individual event finals on April 25th in Waco, Texas hosted by Baylor University.
