Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Lady Pioneers split Monday's doubleheader with the Hilltoppers of West Liberty University.
Game one saw the Lady Pioneer finish with five hits while crushing three home runs as they defeated the Hilltoppers of West Liberty, 6-5. The Hilltoppers recorded eight hits.
West Liberty struck first in the first inning as they led 1-0.
Glenville State came back and took their first lead in the bottom of the second scoring threes as they led 3-1. It started with
Landri Mays getting a base hit and then
Catherine Pelfrey was walked. After the walk
Kierson Tavares hit her first career home run as a Pioneer.
West Liberty tied it up at 3-3 in the third as they scored two runs on four hits. Then in the fourth the Hilltoppers took a two run lead over the Lady Pioneers as they scored two runs on four hits to go up 5-3.
In the sixth inning GSC would go back up one run as
Tori Ward hit a three run home run to center field as the Lady Pioneers led 6-5.
Glenville State then got three quick outs in the seventh as they took game one, 6-5.
Landri Mays went 2-for-3 with two RBI's while
Kierson Tavares finished the game 1-for-2 with three RBI's and hit her first career home run ever.
Celina Maberto picked up her fourth win on the mound for the Lady Pioneers as she pitched 3.2 innings allowing just two hits while striking out three batters.
Game two, saw the Hilltoppers out hit the Lady Pioneers eight to three as GSC fell, 10-1 in six innings.
West Liberty jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. However GSC got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first when
Karra Smith singled to center field scoring
Paranda Uber as the Lady Pioneers pulled within two runs, 3-1.
The Hilltoppers then answered back in the second inning scoring two runs on two hits as they now led 5-1.
The Hilltoppers then put the game out of reach in the fourth as they scored five runs defeating the Lady Pioneers, 10-1.
Karra Smith went 1-for-2 with the only RBI for GSC.
Ally Brown pitched 3.2 innings allowing eight runs on five hits while striking out six batters.
Glenville State (12-28, 5-17) will return to action on Thursday, April 18
th as they host the Big Blues of Bluefield State College in non-conference game at 1:30 p.m. from the Sue Morris Sports Complex.
