Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer baseball team split a doubleheader on Friday afternoon from the Sue Morris Sports Complex on Senior Day.
The Pioneers recorded 10 hits while they gave up five hits to West Virginia Wesleyan as GSC took game one 8-4.
WVWC struck first in the first as they scored one run on two hits to take a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers answered in the bottom of the first when Tre'von Smith hit a two run home run, his 11th of the year, as Glenville State took a 2-1 lead.
GSC then took their first lead in the second as Colby Werry singled to right field scoring Michael Ferguson as the Pioneers led 3-1.
GSC added a run in the in the third as they led 4-1 when Ryan Colaw homered.
The Pioneers then added a run in the fourth and fifth inning and then two runs in the sixth inning as they defeated the Bobcats 8-4.
Tre'von Smith went 3-for-4 with two RBI's while Colby Werry, Carter Boswell, Ryan Colaw, and Michael Ferguson each recorded an RBI.
Andrue Hughart pitched the entire contest allowing four runs on five hits with two strike outs.
Game two would belong to the Bobcats as they defeated the Pioneers 5-2. WVWC tallied eight hits while GSC finished with four hits
The Bobcats got on the scoreboard first in the second inning Ryan Kiser hit a solo home run as they led 1-0. WVWC then added another run in the third off of one hit as they held a 2-0 lead.
The Pioneers tied it up at 2-2 in the bottom of the third as Carter Boswell singled to center field scoring Colby Werry and Michael Ferguson.
However, WVWC went on and added three more runs as they took game two 5-2.
Colby Werry went 2-for-4 while Carter Boswell finished the game 1-for-2 with two RBI's.
Jacob Williams pitched 1.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits with two strike outs.
Glenville State (13-33, 8-22) will finish their four game series with the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday, May 5th when they travel to Buckhannon, West Virginia at 1 p.m.
