Lady Pioneers Come Up Short in OT

Glenville, W.Va. – Sunday September 29th the Women's soccer program faced off against Davis and Elkins College ranked ninth in the region. The Lady Pioneers defense would hash out against the Senators forcing overtime before losing 1-0. Since becoming NCAA affiliated, this is the Lady Pioneers first time forcing over-time action.
 
In the first half, both the Lady Pioneers and the Senators were left scoreless while both having many missed opportunities.  Julia Lesko, Carley Midkiff and Leighana Weaver all had shots with Weavers on target. The Senators had nine shots, four on target with Morgan Smailes saving all.
 
In the second half, the play become rough with five total yellow cards, three for the Senators and two for the Blue and White. D& E drew the first card of the match, Abigail Dye and Miki Abe drew the second and third yellow card, which then D&E and their coach drew the last two yellow cards. By the end of the second half, the Senators generated ten fouls where as GSC had seven.
 
In the two-minute mark of the second half, Weaver would be shy of the first goal of the match heading the ball towards the goal keeper.
 
GSC's defense could only hash out much longer before the Senators would score in overtime to end the match 1-0.
 
The Senators outshot the Lady Pioneers 19-9, Midkiff and Weaver would add one and three shots respectively, two on target for Weaver.
 
Morgan Smailes would add 10 saves on the day.
 
The Blue and White will be back in mid week action Thursday, October 3rd at Concord, kick off is set for 1:00pm.
