Lady Pioneers Win Shootout Over the Hilltoppers on the Road

West Liberty, W.Va. – The Glenville State Women's Basketball team would etch a victory over the West Liberty Hilltoppers 114-108. GSC improves to 10-4, 6-2 MEC where WLU falls to 6-8, 2-6 MEC.
 
Taychaun Hubbard scored a career high 20 points shooting 10-15 while also notching five rebounds and three steals.
 
How It Happened
 
First Quarter:
 
The Hilltoppers gained an early 9-2 lead over the Lady Pioneers before Emily Stoller's shot behind the arc put a stop to the West Liberty momentum.
 
Re'Shawna Stone would cash a pair form behind the line to take the first GSC lead, Emily Stoller would add to the score with a layup 16-13 with under two minutes remaining in the quarter.
 
The lead would trade hands as West Liberty ended the quarter 22-18.
 
Second Quarter:
 
Stone would tie the contest again at 24 all as Taychaun Hubbard's back to back layups would put the Pioneers up at 28-24.
 
Zakiyah Winfield and Ty Armstrong would both go two-for-two at the stripe to add to the 11-5 GSC run.
 
Winfield's layup and a pair of freebies from Armstrong would extend the Lady Pioneers advantage to ten points before the Hilltoppers responded with a bucket from deep. GSC leads 49-42 at the half.
 
The Lady Pioneers shot 43% from the field and 1-for-9 from deep as WLU shot 14-for-36 from the floor and 40% from deep.  
 
Third Quarter:
 
Winfield opened up the scoring for the Blue and White in the second half after trading buckets with the Hilltoppers.
 
Stone added a pair form the line followed by a triple by Emily Stoller and jumper from Victoria Brown to put the Lady Pioneers up 58-50.
 
Both teams would trade baskets back and forth at 14 a piece as GSC maintained a 70-64 lead with under five minutes remaining in the third quarter.
 
West Liberty would go on a 7-2 run to reduce their fall to one paint at 72-71, the Hilltoppers would surpass the Blue and White with a pair of freebies with 2:39 remaining.
 
WLU entered a 7-0 run before Abby Stoller scored from deep but responded with another three from the Hilltopper's bench.
 
Stone's layup, and a jumper by Hubbard and Winfield would tie the contest again at 83 all ending the third quarter.
 
Fourth Quarter:
 
The lead traded hands several times throughout the first four minutes of the quarter before the Blue and White pushed a seven-point advantage with a jumper and bucket from deep by Emily Stoller.
 
GSC continued to push a 7-2 run before WLU retaliated on to trail 110-108 with 32 seconds remaining in the game.
 
Stone would add to the Lady Pioneer score with a layup to lead 1120-108 with eight seconds remaining. WLU would have one more possession but missed a three pointer and fouled Armstrong.
 
Armstrong would add a pair of freebies to take the game 114-108.
 
Inside The Box Score
 
The Lady Pioneers shot 51% from the floor and 88% from the stripe totaling 11 steals.
 
GSC was lead by Emily Stoller scoring 26 total points with six shot from deep and eight rebounds.
 
Following Stoller was Re'Shawna Stone tallying 23 points and shooting 7-for-7 from the stripe.
 
West Liberty shot 36-for-75 from the field with 43% from deep scoring 17 second-chance points.
 
The Hilltoppers were lead by Morgan Brunner who totaled 33 points on the night.
