Stone and Winfield Combined for 46 Points in Road Victory over D&E

Elkins, W.Va. – Glenville State hit the century mark for the ninth time this season in route to a double-digit victry on the road at Davis & Elkins. GSC captured a 117-85 win over the Senators to improve to 11-4, 7-2 MEC where D&E fell to 2-12,2-7 MEC.
 
Abby Stoller hit her first double-double of the season with ten total points and 12 rebounds on the night.
 
How It Happened
 
First Quarter:
 
Emily Stoller opened the contest with a pair of freebies to put the Lady Pioneers on the board early. Both teams would then rattle 17 points a piece before the Stoller sisters would connect from deep to take the lead 18-17.
 
Ty Armstrong and Re'Shawna Stone added another pair from downtown followed by a jumper by Taychaun Hubbard.
 
The Senators continued to etch back at the Blue and White as they trailed 29-25 with under two minutes remaining.
 
D&E ended the quarter with notching two layups to tie the game at 31 all.
 
Second Quarter:
 
The Blue and White went on a 10-2 run to gain a ten-point advantage over the Senators.
 
Kaylee Pierce would add to the Blue and White score from downtown to put the Pioneers up 46-33. Zakiyah Winfield and Stone added a pair of jumpers before D&E responded with four Senator points.
 
The Lady Pioneers ended the quarter on a 12-5 run to send the Senators to the locker room trailing62-49 with buckets by Abby Stoller and Re'Shawna Stone.
 
The Lady Pioneers shot 58% on the floor in the first half and 10-for-20 from deep while notching six steals.
 
The Senators shot 20-for-38 in the field and just 33% from behind the arc.
 
Third Quarter:
 
Mashayla Cecil would hit a triple to extend the GSC advantage to 22 leading 73-51 early in the third. Ty Armstrong would add to the momentum by scoring her third triple of the night.
 
GSC entered a 10-2 run however the Senators would respond on a 6-0 run to keep the Blue and White ahead 86-59. Cecil would end the run on a triple followed by a jumper from Winfield.
 
Victoria Brown added a pair from the stripe with a D&E layup to end the quarter leading 99-65.
 
Fourth Quarter:
 
Brown hit the century mark for the Lady Pioneers going 2-for-2 at the line followed by a layup from Hubbard to push the Blue and White lead to 35 points at 105-70.
 
The Stoller sisters would connect again from deep as Abby Stoller would add a pair from the stripe to put the Pioneers ahead 114-85.
 
Alexis wise would shoot her shot from downtown for a three with one minute remaining to end the contest 117-85.
 
Inside The Box Score
 
The Blue and White shot 54% from the floor shooting 17-for-40 from deep with 40 bench points and 12 fast break points.
 
Re'Shawna Stone lead the Lady Pioneers with 26 points and connecting with the Blue and White with five assists. Stone was perfect in the first half of action as she went 7-for-7 in the field.
 
Zakiyah Winfield scored 20 points shooting 70% in the night cap.
 
Victoria Brown, Emily Stoller and Ty Armstrong all scored in double-digits for the Blue and White.
 
D&E shot 50% from the floor and just 31% from deep however the Senators had 26 costly turnovers.
 
D&E was lead by Jamiyah Johnson with 31 points and 12 rebounds.

GSC will return home January 18th to square off against West Virginia Wesleyan at 2pm. GSC fans are encouraged to Blue Out.
