Lady Pioneers Run Wild in Win Over Bobcats

Glenville, W.Va. – The Lady Pioneers defeat the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan College (3-13, 1-9 MEC) in an end of week clash, 124-75. The Blue and White turned 50 turnovers into points improving GSC to 12-4, 8-2 MEC.
 
Zakiyah Winfield shot 83% from the floor scoring 26 total points with five assists and two steals.
 
How It Happened
 
First Quarter:
 
The Bobcats opened the contest with an early 10-1 lead before Zakiyah Winfield began the scoring for the Blue and White.
 
Emily Stoller increased the Pioneer momentum by going on a short 6-0 run her self with back to back triples.
 
Down the stretch, Mayshayla Cecil would steal the ball to connect with Lucile Westfall to surpass the Bobcats 13-11.
 
The Lady Pioneers would enter a 15-6 run to push their lead to double-digits with under two minutes remaining.
 
Kaylee Pierce would add a pair from the stripe to end the quarter 32-17.
 
Second Quarter:
 
Cecil began the quarter with a bucket from deep followed by layup form Stone and jumper from Taychaun Hubbard.
 
Hubbard and Cecil would both connect with Winfield from deep as the Lady Pioneers entered a 20-2 run to push the Blue and White 59-19.
 
Winfield went on a 6-0 run herself with a shot from deep, layup and freebie. Emily Stoller would also convert a pair from the stripe before Ty Armstrong shot a three to send the Bobcats trailing 76-27 at the half.
 
GSC shot 52% from the floor with 10-for-23 from deep with 40 points off turnovers. WVWC shot 38% from the field and 1-for-5 from deep.
 
Third Quarter:
 
Wesleyan entered the quarter with a short 13-6 run as the Bobcats added a bucket from deep to cut their deficit 82-40.
 
Emily Stoller would end slow their run with a triple but the Bobcats would not go away as they converted a pair from the stripe.
 
The Bobcats saw their momentum again at the end of the third on a 7-2 run over the Lady Pioneers. However, Re'Shawna Stone's half court buzzer beater lit the stadium as the Blue and White lead 101-53.
 
Fourth Quarter:
 
The Lady Pioneers continued off Stone's momentum with an 11-2 run early in the quarter.
 
Kaylee Pierce added to the score midway through the final stanza, Wesleyan trimmed their deficit on an 8-2 run.
 
Makayla Peirce added back to back triples to end the contest at 124-75.
 
Inside The Box Score
 
GSC shot 48% from the floor and 16-for-37 from behind the arc forcing 26 fast break points and 25 second chance points.
 
Re'Shawna Stone and Emily Stoller both notched 22 points in the contest both shooting over 50% from the field.
 
Ty Armstrong connected with serval Lady Pioneers collecting four assists.
 
Lucille Westfall and Victoria Brown both knotted eight and nine rebounds.
 
The Bobcats also shot 48% from the floor with just 2-for-10 from deep knotting 52 bench points.
 
WVWC was lead by Nicole Gilyard scoring 22 total points with 13 rebounds.

GSC will travel to West Virginia State for a mid-week clash over the Yellow Jackets.
