Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Pioneers end their five game skid with a victory over West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats (6-10, 5-5 MEC) 91-71. The Blue and White improve to 9-7 overall and 6-4 in conference action.
Steven Verplancken notched 19 total points with eight rebounds shooting 80% from the field.
How It Happened
First Half:
Noah Frampton commenced the Pioneer score with a shot from downtown followed by a jumper form
Steven Verplancken as the Blue and White trailed by one.
The Pioneers would earn their first lead of the contest as
Seth Fallon would score from deep to put GSC up 8-6.
Fallon would connect with
Hegel Augustin for his second triple and continued with a monster dunk by Augustin to push the Pioneers to 13-9.
The Pioneers pushed their advantage to double digits with two layups by
Ty Robinson and jumper by
Phil Bledsoe. The Bobcats would respond from deep then stopped again with a jumper from Verplancken.
Tyvon Taylor then found Augustin on the court for his second dunk of the night to maintain their ten-point lead at 36-26.
Verplancken and Augustin would both add a triple from deep but responded by a Bobcat three to send WVWC trailing 44-33 at the end of the half.
At the half, the Pioneers shot 54% from the floor with just 6-for-18 from behind the arc with 21 rebounds. WVWC shot just 13-for-30 from the field and 35% from deep.
Second Half:
The first two minutes would remain scoreless from both sides before
Najee Scott broke the seal with a layup and shot from the stripe. The Bobcats would respond with a jumper and layup to trim their deficit.
Out of the timeout with 16:16 remaining,
Tyvon Taylor and Augustin both added a bucket from deep to push the Pioneers to 53-39.
Taylor then found Robinson in the field to answer Wesleyan's 4-0 run with two dunks that lit the Waco Center's energy.
The Bobcats rallied a short 5-0 run to reduce their trail but ended as
Najee Scott knocked a triple to keep the Pioneers up 60-48.
Down the stretch, Verplancken banked another triple followed by two threes from Scott to push the Pioneer advantage to 20 points with two minutes remaining.

The Pioneers shot 53% from the floor and 43% from deep with 36 rebounds and 35 points in the paint.
Hegel Augustin notched 19 total points with six assists on the night with
Najee Scott tallying behind with 15 points.
Ty Robinson shot 4-for-4 knotting eight points.
WVWC shot just 44% from the floor and 8-for-27 from behind the arc scoring 27 bench points.
The Bobcats were led by Marcus Larsson who scored 15 points and Daylin Lee who knotted seven rebounds.
