GSC Scores 100 Points for 7th Straight Time Defeating WVSU on the Road

Institute, W.Va. – Glenville State defeated West Virginia State University (7-10, 5-6 MEC) 125-91 to improve to 13-4 on the year and 9-2 in conference action.
 
The Lady Pioneers have reached the century mark 11 total times this season and have now scored 100 or more points in seven straight contests.
 
Re'Shawna Stone scored her second double-double of the season tallying 12 points and 12 rebounds.
 
How It Happened
 
First Quarter:
 
Zakiyah Winfield found the basket early from behind the arc as the Yellow Jackets responded quick with a shot from deep themselves. The Lady Pioneers would enter 10-0 run as Ty Armstrong collected a pair of triples.
 
GSC would push their advantage to double-digits with triples from Re'Shawna Stone and Mashayla Cecil to keep the Blue and White ahead 29-15.
 
In the final minute of the quarter, WVSU went on a short 6-2 to cut their deficit to 23-33.
 
Second Quarter:
 
Winfield put a pair of freebies on the board before the Yellow Jackets answered back on a 7-0 run.
 
Armstrong would slow WVSU's run as she connected with Kaylee Pierce from deep.
 
Down the stretch, GSC outscored the Yellow Jackets 19-15 as Stone and Winfield added a pair and a jumper, respectively. GSC leads the half 61-57.
 
The Blue and White shot 25-for-49 from the floor and just 31% from deep. WVSU shot 54% from the field and 4-for-11 from behind the arc.
 
Third Quarter:
 
Ty Armstrong knocked down a triple to start the scoring for the Lady Pioneers in the second half. The Lady Pioneers continued to push their advantage with a 9-2 run with a shot from deep by Lucille Westfall.
 
Taychaun Hubbard added to the rally from downtown to extend the lead 77-51. Glenville State continued to push the score further as Abby Stoller knocked down a triple to push a 30-point lead.
 
With under three minutes remaining the Yellow Jackets would cut their 30-point deficit answering on an 11-4 run.
 
To end the quarter, the Lady Pioneers would go on a 9-2 run with a pair of freebies from Kaylee Pierce to lead 95-65.
 
Fourth Quarter:
 
Ty Armstong's triple would hit the century mark for the Lady Pioneers at 102-69.
 
Kaylee Pierce would find her sister Makayla Pierce and teammate Emily Stoller for back-to-back triples to advance the Lady Pioneers to 113-74.
 
With under a minute remaining, Kaylee Peirce would go on a 5-0 run herself to defeat the Yellow Jackets 125-91.
 
Inside The Bix Score
 
The Lady Pioneers shot 47% from the floor and 40% from behind the arc outrebounding the Yellow Jackets 63-32. GSC tallied 27 points off turnovers and 39 second chance points.
 
Zakiyah Winfield scored a game high 21 points shooting 8-for-11 and 2-for-3 from deep with Kaylee Pierce following with career high 20 points.
 
Ty Armstrong shot 5-for-6 from behind the arc totaling 19 points with Emily Stoller at 18.
 
Lucille Westfall totaled 14 rebounds on the night, six offensive and eight defensive rebounds with two blocks.
 
West Virginia State University shot 50% from the floor with just 8-for-20 from deep scoring 60 points in the paint.
 
The Yellow Jackets were lead by Alexis Hall with 19 points four rebounds and two steals.

The Lady Pioneers will return to the Waco Center Sunday January 26th at 2pm to host Concord University in a Throw Back to the 90s theme setting.
