GSC Defeats CU in 90s Day Action

Glenville, W.Va. – The Lady Pioneers picked up a victory over the Mountain Lions of Concord University (11-6, 8-4 MEC) 110-84 to improve to 14-4 overall and 10-2 in conference action.
 
Ty Armstrong picked up a game high 26 total points, shooting 5-for-10 from deep.
 
How It Happened
 
First Quarter:
 
The Lady Pioneers gained an early lead to open the contest, but surpassed by the Mountain Lions 8-5.
 
A layup by Taychaun Hubbard would tie the contest at 11 all and exceeded with three triples by Emily Stoller and Ty Armstrong to push GSC ahead 22-16.
 
The Blue and White would push their lead to double-digits to end the quarter at 31-18.
 
Second Quarter:
 
Zakiyah Winfield and Ty Armstrong opened the second quarter with three layups, Victoria Brown would add to the GSC score by knocking down a triple.
 
Emily Stoller's triple would start a GSC 16-7 run, Re'Shawna Stone's would add back to back buckets.
 
In the final minute of the half, Kaylee Peirce notched a bucket from deep sending the Mountain Lions to the locker room trailing 54-30.   
 
At the half, the Lady Pioneers shot 52% from the floor and 9-for-21 from behind the arc with 12 steals.
 
The Mountain Lions shot just 21-for-48 from the field and 3-for-7 from deep knotting 19 defensive rebounds.
 
Third Quarter:
 
Concord would attempt to cut back their deficit by going on a 10-1 run but slowed down by Stone's layup.
 
Stone scored a long distance bucket to slow the Mountain Lion momentum as they entered a 15-9 run to pull within eleven of Glenville.
 
The Lady Pioneers would answer back by starting a 11-5 run that began with Winfield's three-point conversion.
 
Armstrong would convert a pair before the end of the third, Stoller then found Winfield on the floor for a layup to finish the third 84-62.
 
Fourth Quarter:
Attempting to cut their deficit again, the Mountain Lions came out of the timeout on a 6-1 run. Both teams would continue to trade baskets at eight a piece.
 
Victoria Brown would separate with a shot from deep to keep the Lady Pioneers ahead 98-76, Armstrong would hit the century mark with a layup.
 
Kaylee Peirce would add a triple from Victoria Brown forcing a Concord time-out, out of the timeout, Armstrong would scratch another triple of the board to lead 106-84.
 
The Lady Pioneers would complete the contest at 110-84.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
Glenville State shot 45% from the floor and just 16-for-42 from behind the arc while claiming 22 second chance points and 29 points off turnovers.
 
Zakiyah Winfield totaled 22 points from the field shooting 8-for-12 from the floor and 6-for-8 from the stripe.
 
Emily Stoller tallied 17 points on the day connecting with the Lady Pioneers to knot six assists.
 
Abby Stoller brought down 10 rebounds, four offensive and six defensive rebounds.
 
The Mountain Lions shot 60% from the floor and just 29% from deep totaling five blocks and 58 points in the paint.
 
CU was lead by Madison May who totaled 34 points.

The Lady Pioneers will travel to Urbana University for a mid week clash against the Blue Knights January 29th at 5:30pm.
