Coach Stephens Collects 100th Career Victory

Urbana, OH – Coach Kim Stephens earned her 100th career win over Urbana University 118-92, Coach Stephens is the fourth coach in GSC women's program history reach the century milestone.
 
The Lady Pioneers improve to15-4 on the year and 11-2 in conference action as UU falls to 12-7, 8-5 MEC.
 
Emily Stoller would tally 34 total points on the night as she shot 70% from the field and 9-for-12 from deep while gaining five rebounds.
 
How It Happened
 
First Quarter:
 
Ty Armstrong would open the first quarter starting the Lady Pioneers with a layup, Emily Stoller would add to the GSC score by connecting with Re'Shawna Stone for three to take an early 5-0 lead.
 
The Blue Knights would quickly respond by going on a 11-0 run to take a 11-5 lead with 7:10 remaining on the clock. Stone would slow their run down by adding a pair of freebies from the stripe before Urbana would gain an eight-point lead at 23-15.
 
Kaylee Peirce would rebound off UU's jumper and connect with Stone down the field to tie the contest at 25 all.
 
Second Quarter:
 
Urbana started the second quarter by hitting a triple and jumper to lead 33-29. Stoller connected with Zakiyah Winfield to hit a three taking first lead of the quarter.
 
Blaize Burgess would add to the GSC score with a layup and followed by a triple from Stoller.
 
Ty Armstrong would go on an 11-1 run herself to gain a double-digit lead over the Blue Knights within the last three minutes of the half.
 
At the half, the Lady Pioneers shot 20-for-40 from the floor with 53% from deep where the Blue Knights also shot 48% from the field but just 30% from deep.
 
Third Quarter:
 
The Blue Knights would pull within six of the Pioneers to start the second half, but Stoller would go on a 6-2 run to push the GSC back to double-digit lead.
 
Both teams would exchange baskets down the stretch as the Lady Pioneers push their lead up to 14-points with a pair of freebies from the stripe.
 
To end the third quarter, Armstrong tallied four points to extend their lead to 92-76 holding their largest lead of the game.
 
Fourth Quarter:
 
The Blue and White would make separation as Kaneshia Afi would hit a three from downtown hitting the Lady Pioneer century mark at 100-78.
 
Within three minutes following Afi's triple, the Lady Pioneers would go on a 10-2 run with buckets by Stoller, Winfield, and Taychuan Hubbard.
 
Armstrong and Stoller would both add a layup each to end the contest at 118-92.
 
Inside The Box Score
 
GSC shot 55% from the floor and 15-for-33 from behind the arc while scoring 40 fast break points and 17 points in the paint.
 
Ty Armstrong tallied 22 points in the contest shooting 46% in the field and 44% from deep.
 
Re'Shawna Stone took three steals, four rebounds and totaled 14 point as Abby Stoller totaled six rebounds on the night.
 
Urbana shot just 44% from the field and 4-for-16 from deep though out rebounding the Lady Pioneers 49-36, while scoring 19 second chance points.
 
The Blue Knights were lead by Trya James, knotting 36 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.
 
Coming Up
 
The Lady Pioneers will return to action at Home in the Waco Center hosting Notre Dame College in GSC's Winter Homecoming. Tip off is slated for 2pm on February 1st.
