Lady Pioneers Sway into First Place In MEC Defeating NDC

Glenville, W.Va. – The Lady Pioneers would claim the top seed of the conference by defeating Notre Dame College 95-71. GSC improves to 16-4 on the year and 12-2 in conference action.
 
Abby Stoller hits her second career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while connecting for three assists.
 
How It Happened
 
First Quarter:
 
In the first four minutes of play, the NDC (17-3, 11-3 MEC) would hold a 6-3 lead over GSC until Emily Stoller hit a three to tie the contest at six all.
 
Ty Armstrong would add to the Lady Pioneer score with a shot from deep but the Fighting Falcons would take the lead again with a pair from the stripe at 12-11.
 
Before the one-minute mark the Falcons entered a 10-3 run, Armstrong would slow their run with 40 seconds remaining in the first quarter by adding a layup.
 
Stoller would close their gap with by adding another shot from behind the arc to end the quarter at 22-19.
 
Second Quarter:
 
Zakiyah Winfield would have a three-point conversion to tie the contest at 22 all, but the lead would change hands over three minutes of action.
 
The Fighting Falcons would maintain a 30-28 lead before Stone, Stoller and Armstrong would hit three straight shots from behind the arc to lead 37-32 with three minutes remaining in the half.
 
Winfield would add a layup to the Lady Pioneer momentum with a pair from the stripe by Abby Stoller. Armstrong would continue with a layup as well to push a ten-point lead over NDC.
 
Armstrong would add another three to send the Fighting Falcons to the locker room trailing 46-34.
 
The Lady Pioneers shot 45% from the floor and 8-for-19 from deep where NDC shot 40% from the field and 0% from behind the arc.
 
Third Quarter:
 
NDC would start on a short 6-0 run to pull within singe digits of the Lady Pioneers. However, after trading several baskets, Taychaun Hubbard would extend GSC's lead back to double-digits by adding a layup to lead 59-49.
 
Blaize Burgess would go on a 5-0 run herself by starting off with a layup and adding a shot from deep.
Emily Stoller would hit her fourth triple of the contest to complete the third quarter leading 69-58.
 
Fourth Quarter:
 
GSC would make separation as Winfield would hit a three that would start a 12-6 run for the Lady Pioneers.
 
Abby Stoller and Lucille Westfall would both add buckets from the stripe to push their advantage by twenty points at 88-68 with under two minutes remaining.
 
Armstrong would add a layup and find Emily Stoller on the floor to connect for three. GSC would defeat NDC 95-71.
 
Inside The Box Score
 
The Lady Pioneers shot 33-for-66 from the field while shooting 48% from the floor scoring 17 points off turnovers and 21 bench points.
 
Ty Armstrong and Emily Stoller both lead the Blue and White with 21 total points, Armstrong shot 70% form the floor as Stoller shot 5-for-8 from deep.
 
Zakiyah Winfield totaled 16 points and two assists as she shot 50% from the floor while Taychaun Hubbard tallied ten rebounds on the night.
 
The Fighting Falcons shot just 42% from the floor and 1-for-10 from deep while scoring 54 points in the paint.
 
NDC was lead by Seina Adachi who tallied 16 points while pacing 34 mins.

The Lady Pioneers will return to action hosting Fairmont State in the Waco Center at 5:30pm, Wednesday February 5th.
