GSC Hoops Early Lead Defeats FSU

Glenville, W.Va. –The Glenville State Women's Basketball team (17-4, 13-2 MEC) produced valiant victory over the Falcons of Fairmont State (11-10, 8-7 MEC) 102-76 to push to an 11 game win streak.
 
Ty Armstrong lead the Lady Pioneers with 24 points shooting 52% from the floor.
 
How It Happened
 
First Quarter:
 
The Lady Pioneers gained an early 8-2 lead over the Falcons as Ty Armstrong's bucket from deep would continue the Blue and White momentum forcing a Falcon timeout.
 
Zakiyah Winfield would score a layup with teammate Re'Shawana Stone to push a short 8-3 run.
 
The Falcons would end their run in the final minute of the first quarter with a layup and triple to trail 21-14.
 
Second Quarter:
 
Looking to close the gap closer, the Falcons hit a triple but Winfield would respond on a short 5-0 run her self with a layup and bucket from deep to lead 28-17.
 
Both teams would trade backsets at ten a piece with buckets by Armstrong, Stone and Emily Stoller.
 
The Lady Pioneers would then sway away from FSU with jumpers from Kaneshia Afi and Kaylee Pierce started by Stone's three ball to push the Pioneer advantage to 20.
 
Before the end of the half, Taychaun Hubbard converted a pair from the stripe along with a jumper from Winfield and layup from Stone.  
 
The Falcons sunk a layup at the buzzer but still 56-32.
 
The Blue and White shot 53% from the floor and just 4-for-14 from behind the arc as FSU shot 42% from the floor and behind the arc.
 
Third Quarter:
 
Ty Armstrong opened the third quarter sinking back to back threes connecting with Taychuan Hubbard.
 
Emily Stoller built off that momentum knocking another three ball to push the Lady Pioneers 65-32 with 6:21 left in the third.
 
Down the stretch, Stoller would sink two jumpers and layups from Stone and Afi to end the third with the Pioneers leading 79-47.
Fourth Quarter:
 
Attempting to close their deficit, the Falcons would go on a 10-2 run to trail 83-57. Winfield and Armstrong would slow their run down by sinking jumper and layup.
 
The Lady Pioneers lead moved to 27 as both twins, Kaylee and Makayla Pierce would both sink layups.
 
Kaylee Pierce hit the century mark with a shot from downtown to end the contest at 102-76.
 
Inside The Box Score
 
The Lady Pioneers shot just short of 50% from the floor and 8-for-27 from deep knotting 57 rebounds, while scoring 20 points in the paint and 26 off turnovers.
 
Lucille Westfall topped team high, nine rebounds and two steals.
 
Both Zakiyah Winfield and Ty Armstrong totaled 21 points shooting 58 and 60% from the floor together sinking two triples.
 
Taychuan Hubbard tallied two blocks on the night.
 
FSU shot 39% from the floor and 35% from behind the arc adding nine steals and 34 bench points.
 
The Falcons were lead by Taylor Duplaga knotting 23 points and three steals.
 
Coming Up
 
The Lady Pioneers will travel to Maryland to square off against Frostburg State, Saturday February 8th at 2pm.
