Wheeling, W.Va. – The Lady Pioneers continue to dominate through the regular season defeating Wheeling University 121-89 improving to 20-4 overall and 16-2 in conference play.
Re'Shawna Stone netted 30 points in the contest. The sophomore sits just four points shy of 1000.
How it Happened
First Quarter:
The Lady Pioneers opened up the contest on an 8-2 run as Re'Shawna Stone and
Ty Armstrong both scored four points apiece in the early going. However, the Cardinals then made a run of their own as they pulled within two points of the Pioneers 10-8 at the first media timeout of the contest.
Two three-pointers by
Emily Stoller would help GSC end the first on a 22-12 run as they took a 32-20 lead after one.
Second Quarter:
The Lady Pioneers started the second with a quick three-points by
Ty Armstrong as they led 35-20.
Wheeling would come into close contact with the Lady Pioneers trailing within single digits at 35-27.
The Blue and White would sway away from Cardinals as Winfield would add a layup with
Ty Armstrong following with a pair of freebies and jumper.
The Cardinals would cut back at their deficit going on a short 8-4 run until GSC kicked back into gear ending the half on a 10-2 run to put the Blue and White ahead at 56-37.
The Lady Pioneers would end the half shooting 59% from the floor and 50% from the deep where the Cardinals shot just 42% from the field and 2-for-4 from behind the arc.
Third Quarter:
The Lady Pioneers opened the second half on a quick 7-2 run as Re'Shawna Stone found
Taychaun Hubbard on the floor for a three ball.
Both teams would trade baskets for 11 apiece as GSC continues to lead 74-50.
Ending the third, the Blue and White hold an 85-61 lead over Wheeling.
Fourth Quarter:
Wheeling came into the final stretch with a 7-1 run before Hubbard converted a three-point conversion to end their momentum.
Re'Shawna Stone would hit the century mark with a layup with a layup to lead 101-79 with 5:30 remaining in the contest.
Fast forward to the final minute of play,
Lucille Westfall converted a pair from the stripe, with
Blaize Burgess adding 1-for-1 to end the contest at 121-89.
Inside the Box
The Lady Pioneers finished the contest shooting 55% from the field and 9-for-20 from behind the arc outrebounding the Cardinals 31-25 and scoring 35 fast break points.
Emily Stoller ticketed 21 points shooting 50% from the floor and bringing down five rebounds and five steals.
Zakiyah Winfield continues with consistency as she netted 19 points with six rebounds.
Lucille Westfall tallied six defensive rebounds and one offensive in her 18 minutes of play.
The Cardinals shot 49% from the field and just 4-for-11 from deep tallying six blocks in the contest.
Wheeling was led by Lilly Ritz, scoring 30 points and 11 rebounds.
