Lady Pioneers Clinched a Share of the MEC Regular Season Championship on Senior Night

Glenville, W.Va. – Late fourth quarter rally lifts the Lady Pioneers past University of Charleston 89-60 to clinch a share of the regular season MEC Championship.
 
While keeping a close game throughout the contest, GSC separated in fourth to finalize a double-digit win.
 
How It Happened
 
First Quarter:
 
Throughout the first quarter of the contest, the lead would trade hands over the span of ten points each. However, Kaylee Peirce would sink a three to slowly sway away from the Golden Eagles at 14-10.
 
From there, Blaize Burgess and Victoria Brown each added a layup and a pair form the stripe to to maintain their four-point lead at 20-16
 
UC countered back to end the quarter tied at 20 all.
 
Second Quarter:
 
The Eagles would get ahead on a 26-23 lead early in the second but the Lady Pioneers did not stray away as Brown hit a jumper and Burgess added a shot from the stripe to tie them game again at 26 all with 4:29 left in the half.
 
Emily Stoller added a three ball to lead 33-30 as UC retuned with a layup, however Stoller would not stop as she added jumper to maintain the three-point lead.
 
Taychaun Hubbard continued with a layup to send the Golden Eagles to the locker room room trailing 37-34.
 
At the half, the Lady Pioneers shot 44% from the floor and just 2-for-11 from behind the arc as UC shot 16-for-32 from the field and 0% from deep.
 
Third Quarter:
 
Emily Stoller and Re'Shawna Stone opened the third quarter for the Lady Pioneers as UC responded with another four points.
 
Throughout the third quarter, the Blue and White maintained a five-point lead with buckets by Zakiyah Winfield and Kaneshia Afi.
 
In the final minute of the quarter, UC would inch their way back closing their small gap to, two. Stone's layup, Stollers shot from deep and Winfield's jumper pushed their lead back to seven to end the quarter 57-50.
 
Fourth Quarter:
 
Abby Stoller sunk a layup with Kaneshia Afi following with a three ball from Emily Stoller to open the fourth quarter. This would be the first double-digit lead for either team.
 
The Lady Pioneers would then make separation as Winfield sunk a layup to which Emily Stoller found her sister on the floor for a three ball. The Blue and White's momentum would not stop as Ty Armstrong and Zakiyah Winfield added another layup to lead 74-58.
 
GSC rallied a 13-0 run as the three seniors made the last three plays with two jumpers from Emily Stoller and Blaize Burgess and a three ball from Ty Armstrong.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
The Blue and White shot 50% from the floor and tallied seven three balls scoring 25 points off turnovers and gathering 37 rebounds.
 
Emily Stoller netted game high 19 points with three assists.
 
Zakiyah Winfield and Kaneshia Afi both totaled ten points in the night as Ty Armstrong tallied 11.
 
Taychaun Hubbard had five rebounds in the contest.
 
Flipping averages in the half, UC shot 46% from the floor and 0-for-1 from behind the arc scoring 40 on court points. The Golden Eagles were lead by Anna Hayton and Brooklyn Pannell, both scoring 16 a piece.

GSC will close their regular season at Concord University, Saturday February 29th at 2pm.
