Glenville Has Late Lead Slip Away Against FSU

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Men's Basketball team saw their late lead slip away against Fairmont State in an MEC matchup Wednesday evening, 77-79.
 
Hegel Augustin knotted his second career double-double as a Pioneers tallying 22 points and 19 rebounds on the night shooting 50% from the floor.
 
How It Happened
 
First Half:
 
The Falcons gained an early 6-0 lead over the Pioneers though it would not last long, Noah Frampton and Phil Bledsoe together hit a triple and layup to bring GSC within one.
 
Frampton found Steven Verplancken on the court for a three to tie the contest at eight all. From there the Pioneers gain a 17-10 lead as Verplancken sunk a basket from behind the arc.
 
The Falcons would pull within one at 19-18 but shot down by Hegel Augustin netting a three ball.
 
The contest would be tied at 22 all and 24 all again as Verplancken's back to back layups from Najee Scott put the Pioneers up 26-24. Tyvon Taylor would extend their advantage by sinking a three ball.
 
FSU would tie the contest again at 31 all with under three minutes remaining the surpass the Pioneers by adding a layup.
 
The Falcons would convert another ten points within the half where Augustin added a pair from the stripe and Frampton added a layup to trail 40-35 at the half.
 
GSC shot just 38% from the field and 5-for-18 from behind the arc with FSU also have similar stats at the half. FSU shot 40% from the floor and 5-for-16 from deep.
 
Second Half:
 
Noah Frampton would sink a three ball to start the half to pull within three but canceled out by FSU's triple.
 
Ty Robinson tied the game again at 46 to which the Pioneers regained the lead at 48-46 with Tyvon Taylor's layup.
 
As both teams traded the lead before the Pioneers fell behind by ten but slowed the FSU run by hitting a shot from deep from Verplancken.
 
Verplancken went on a short 5-0 run with a layup and triple to pull the Pioneers within four of the Falcons.
 
Augustin continued with a three ball resulting in a scoreless two minutes. Verplancken would hit another three ball to push past the Falcons where FSU would not go away as they hit a layup to lead 67-66.
 
Augustin converted a pair of freebies at the stripe to regain their lead. FSU would outscore the Pioneers 6-3 to lead 73-71.
 
Phil Bledsoe would convert a shot at the stripe as FSU mimicked and sunk a layup to extend their lead 76-72.
 
Late fouls continued to cause both teams to shoot from the stripe with under 30 seconds remaining from Bledsoe and Augustin.
 
With three seconds left in the game, the Pioneers fell short down the court falling to FSU 79-77.
 
Inside The Box Score
 
The Pioneers shot just 39% from the floor and 9-for-26 from behind the arc outrebounding the Falcons 50-38. GSC tallied just six points off turnovers and nine fast break points.
 
Steven Verplancken totaled 19 points in the contest shooting 3-for-5 from behind the arc with eight rebounds and four assists.
 
Noah Frampton hit eleven points knotting seven rebounds with three assists.
 
Fairmont State shot 29-for-67 from the floor and just 34% from deep scoring 21 fastbreak points.
 
FSU was lead by Cole VonHandorf who shot 10-for-16 tallying 27 points on the night and five rebounds.
