Lady Pioneers Rack Another Win in the Spring Games

Winter Haven, FL – Lady Pioneers earn their fourth win of the Spring Games defeating American International but falling to Post University.

Karra Smith and Peyton Werntz both tallied three hits on the day both scoring an RBI each as Catherine Pelfrey and Pranda Uber each had two hits.
 
In the circle, Celina Maberto gained the loss giving up just three walks and knotting three strikeouts. Tori Ward picked up the win against AIC tallying just four hits in seven complete.
 
How It Happened
 
Game One: Glenville 2, Post 8
 
The Eagles gained an early 1-0 lead over the Lady Pioneers
 
Paranda Uber walked to start the bottom half as Catherine Pelfrey advanced her to second on a sacrifice bunt as Mackenzie Martinelli pushed her to third on a ground ball to second. Uber then scored on a passed ball to tie the ball game at one all.
 
Karra Smith tallied the Pioneers first hit on a ground ball to right, as Peyton Werntz then followed with a line shot to right advancing Smith to third. However, both runners would be left stranded as they head into the second tied at one a piece.
 
Post then scored in the third to gain their lead back at 2-1 as they extended their lead in the fifth to 4-1.
 
Not giving up, Kelsey Naylor capitalized on Post's error to start the inning. Celina Maberto then advanced Naylor to second on a short ground ball to first as Ashely Fridley then moved Naylor to third on a sacrifice bunt, yet left at third going into the sixth.
 
An Eagle's homerun then extended their lead up to 5-1, as Pelfrey responded with a hit to left center then stole second base. Karra's fly ball to center advanced Pelfrey to third and scored off of Werntz ground ball to reduce their deficit to 5-2.
 
In the seventh, Post exploited on Lady Pioneers errors to advance 8-2. With one last crack at the bats, Ashley Fridley would open the bottom half with a walk and advance on a passed ball. From there, Uber hit a high pop up to third base that popped out of an Eagle's glove to sit first and third. Though both runners would be left stranded to fall 8-2.
 
Game Two: Glenville 5, American International 3
 
The Lady Pioneers got an early 1-0 lead as Martinelli opened the first with a single to left and and stealing second. Fridley then pushed her to third on a short single then stealing second scoring Martinelli on the throw over.
 
Mimicking the same play, Fridley scored as Uber attempted to steal second from third to lead 2-0 after one complete.
 
AIC tied the game in the bottom of the third at two a piece, until in the fifth, Pelfrey opened the top half with a single to left and moved from a sac bunt by Martinelli. Fridley then grounded out to short advancing Pelfrey to third and scored off Smith's single to left.
 
With two outs, Smith scores off Werntz single up the middle to head into the bottom leading 4-2.
 
In the seventh, Smith opened up the half with a walk and advanced to third on a fielder's choice. Uber and Werntz would both be hit in the box to load the bases as Smith would score on Kelsey Naylor's sac fly to center to lead 5-2.
 
The Lady Pioneers would earn their fourth win of the Spring Games, 5-3.
 
Coming Up
 
The Lady Pioneers will end their Spring Games journey tomorrow at 10am and 12:30pm against South Minnesota State and Quincy University.
