Glenville, W.Va. – Glenville State pulls their third victory again within final seconds 90-84 against Davis and Elkins College. The Pioneers improve to 3-0 on the year as the Senators fall to 1-1.
Hegel Augustin added another double-double to his Pioneer career scoring 29 points in the contest also bringing down 16 rebounds.
How It Happened
First Half:
The Pioneers jumped on the board quick with an 11-5 lead with buckets by
John Williams,
Adrian Scarborough and
Hegel Augustin.
The Senators gained their first lead change at 12-11 until Augustin put up another pair of triples to regain their lead 17-14.
Both teams continued to seesaw the contest until the Blue and White recovered their advantage, largest lead of the contest at 27-22 with under ten remaining in the half.
Holding their five-point lead, Augustin added a tear drop as
Luke LeRose connected with
Tommy Williams sinking a deep three ball to clamp 32-27 lead.
Going into the five-minute media timeout tied at 34 all, the half would end 47-44 in favor of Davis & Elkins.
The Pioneers shot 40% from the floor where as the Senators cannoned 60%. Although Glenville State held their advantage scoring seven three balls over D&E sinking just two in the half.
Second Half:
Coming into the second, the Pioneers got down by 12 until
Tommy Williams would cut their deficit with a layup and connecting with
Gus Eddy for a three ball to sit within singles.
From there,
Nick Edwards tallied a three ball along with
Hegel Augustin with a floater to pull the Blue and White within two, 68-66 at 10:45.
Augustin would then tie the ball game, sixth of the night after a 13-point deficit with a layup at 68 all.
Nonetheless, the Senators in the next two minutes went on a 10-0 run gaining a 10-point lead over the Pioneers. Augustin added a freebie at the stripe before Edwards found Williams for a bucket beyond the arc to pull back within six, 80-74 (4:09).
With two three minutes remaining, Augustin scored two floaters and Williams sunk two buckets from deep assisted from Edwards to pull the Blue and White back within one 85-84.
Then all within 45 seconds,
Hegel Augustin tipped a layup to put the Pioneers on top.
Nick Edwards continued with another tear drop until
John Williams was fouled allowing for two freebies to take the contest 90-85.
Inside The Box Score
The Pioneers inefficiently shooting in the first half, pulled a come from behind victory shooting 42.9% from the floor and 12-for-39 from deep. Glenville State tallied 24 points off turnovers and 25 second chance points.
D&E on the other hand, held the lead 52% of the contest scoring 20 fastbreak points and 58.9% from the floor.
John Williams set his Pioneer career high 25 points shooting 5-for-9 from deep tallying four rebounds and assists.
Nick Edwards and
Adrian Scarborough added 13 and 10 points to the Blue and White score as they both tallied four rebounds. Edwards also continued with five assists and four steals on the night.
D&E was lead by Sam Rolle IV who also scored 29 points shooting 50% from three and 66.7% from the field.
Coming Up
Glenville State face off against West Virginia Wesleyan at Buckhannon, W.Va. to tip off against the Bobcats at 4:00pm. At this time a no spectator policy will be followed at each of the 12 Mountain East Conference institutions. The league's Board of Directors will evaluate the no spectator policy no earlier than January 19, 2021.
