Buckhannon, W.Va. –Glenville State (4-0) earned their fourth victory of the season to stay undefeated on Saturday against West Virginia Wesleyan College (0-4) defeating the Bobcats 106-85.
In the contest, five Pioneers tallied double-digit points as
Hegel Augustin lead the pack with 24 total points, eight rebounds and three assists.
How It Happened
First Half:
Glenville State fell early in the first dropping 10-0 until the momentum would change.
John Williams and
Nick Edwards tallied two layups before
Zane Desouza scored from deep to trail 12-7 going into the first media timeout.
From there, the Pioneers gained their first lead by going on a 16-4 run in response to the Bobcats to put the Blue and White up 23-16.
Glenville State made separation from Wesleyan 32-18, once Hegel Agustin connected with Edwards for a three ball after
Adrian Scarborough's layup and
John Williams' jumper.
Maintaining their double-digit lead, Bobcats pulled within five going into the half as GSC led 46-41.
In the half, WVWC shot 58.1% from the floor where as GSC shot just 47.6%. The Pioneers however forced the Bobcats into 13 turnovers scoring and scoring 16 points off turnovers.
Second Half:
Bobcats took the lead after the half 49-48 but Nick Edward's pair from the stripe would put the Pioneers back on top.
Both teams then continued to trade leads until they were tied at 59 a piece. From there, the Bobcats would get up 62-59 before
Adrian Scarborough connected with
Luke LeRose for a monster drunk. Then Edwards connected with
Zane Desouza to sink a three ball and
John Williams for another dunk by the Pioneers to put them up 66-62.
The Pioneers then gained a ten-point advantage 76-66 before going on a 12-5 run to strengthen their cushion 88-71 with under five minutes remaining.
Nicolas Dierynck then hit the century mark for the Pioneers connecting with
Luke LeRose for a three ball.
Ethan Clay then tallied two shots from the stripe as Dawson Lilly then hit the final bucket to win 106-85.
Inside The Box Score
The Pioneers finished the evening 52.5% from the floor while shooting just 10-for-31 from behind the arc. The Blue and White shot 56 points in the paint, 18 second chance points and tallied 11 steal on the night.
Nick Edwards was efficient all around the court, tallying19 points, seven rebounds and steals with six assists.
John Williams totaled 20 points shooting 52% from the floor with
Adrian Scarborough following behind with 16 points and
Zane Desouza with 13.
