Buckhannon, W.Va. – The Lady Pioneers defeated the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan College (0-3) 98-53, Saturday afternoon improving to 3-1 on the season.
In the contest, the Big Three for the Lady Pioneers continued their hot streak as Re'Shawna Stone dropping a game high 24 points,
Zakiyah Winfield posted her third double-double of the season (19 points and 12 rebounds) and
Taychaun Hubbard chipped in 13 points in today's victory.
How It Happened
First Quarter:
Bobcats got on the board first until Re'Shawna Stone's three-point conversion would gain the Lady Pioneer's first lead, 5-4.
Glenville began to separate from Wesleyan gaining a ten-point lead as
Abby Stoller scored from deep along with
Zakiyah Winfield's jumper and shot from the line.
To end the quarter, Stone sunk a teardrop to sit ahead 22-12.
Second Quarter:
Opening the second, Lady Pioneers went on 12-2 run where
Taychaun Hubbard knocked eight to extend their lead 34-20.
From there, Stone added to the Lady Pioneer score with a triple from deep and layups from Winfield and Hubbard connecting with
Jada Mitchell.
Both teams struggled to find the bottom of the net as the Lady Pioneers shot just 36.5% from the floor and 4-for-20 from deep. Bobcats finished the half 30% from the floor and 0-for-8 from behind the arc.
Third Quarter:
Abby Stoller and
Dazha Congleton both sunk two floaters, then
Vendela Danielsson continued with a three ball to start the second half 60-30.
Congleton added to the Lady Pioneer score with a bucket from deep then connecting with
Mashayla Cecil sinking a tear drop.
Jada Mitchell,
Kaylee Pierce and Re'Shawna Stone each added layups to end the third 80-43.
Fourth Quarter:
Winfield opened the fourth with a jumper, Mitchell added a three-point conversion and then
Deja Atkinson continued with a layup to lead 89-47.
Alexis Maynard connected with Congleton for layup then found
Kaylee Pierce for a bucket from deep.
Maynard would skink the final layup of the contest as GSC won 98-53.
Inside The Box Score
All 17 members of the Lady Pioneers appeared in today's victory over the Bobcats as 11 players recorded a bucket.
After a slow first half, Glenville State improved to shooting 41.2% from the floor and forcing Wesleyan into 27 turnovers and scored 34 points off turnovers.
Abby Stoller tallied a game high 14 rebounds along with
Tyesha Taylor with 5 in the contest.
The Bobcats shot just 35% from the floor and 0-for-13 from deep while scoring 33 on court points.
