Zakiyah Winfield Enters the 1,000 Point Club with Victory over Fairmont State

Glenville, W.Va. – The No. 14 Glenville State Lady Pioneers (6-1) picked up a 103-75 victory over the Fighting Falcons of Fairmont State University (3-5) forcing 27 turnovers and converting them into 25 points.
 
Zakiyah Winfield entered the 1,000th point club and also set a new career record scoring 27 points with Re'Shawna Stone following behind tying her career best with 30 points.
 
How It Happened
 
First Quarter:
 
The Fighting Falcons got ahead of the Lady Pioneers early 8-4, but Zakiyah Winfield shaped a three-point conversion following a sinker by Abby Stoller to gain their first lead of the contest 9-8.   
 
Kaylee Pierce then found Dezha Congleton behind the arc to for a three ball following a layup from Mashayla Cecil. From there the Lady Pioneers would finish the quarter on a 14-6 run to extend their advantage 23-14.
 
Second Quarter:
 
Half way into the quarter, the Glenville State gained their first double-digit advantage over Fairmont as Re'Shawna Stone sunk a three ball then connected with Taychaun Hubbard to add a tear drop.
 
The Blue and White then tallied several three balls from Cecil, Stone and Winfield to outspread the Fighting Falcons 43-28.
 
FSU then answered back with a 13-4 run to pull back within singles ending the half 47-41.
 
GSC shot just 34% from the floor and 29% from deep where as FSU was more efficient with 57.7% from the field and 33.3% from behind the arc.
 
Third Quarter:
 
Re'Shawna Stone enabled back their ten-point advantage with Victoria Brown following behind with a tear drop to sit 55-42.  
 
Running back another 14-6 run, Stone tallied seven to push the Lady Pioneers lead 69-48.
 
Deja Atkinson knocked a triple from Winfield as she also added a layup to end the quarter 75-53.
 
Fourth Quarter:
 
FSU scored first in the quarter but was quickly responded back as Stone struck a triple.
 
Brown and Winfield added a basket of freebies that was followed by a shot from downtown by  Pierce to sit 96-66.
 
Zakiyah Winfield then scored her 1,000 point on a layup with Abby Stoller following behind to hit the century mark for the Lady Pioneers.
 
Alexis Maynard then sunk the final layup of the contest to defeat the Fighting Falcons 103-75.
 
Inside The Box Score
 
The Lady Pioneers ended the contest shooting 40% from the floor and 10-for-29 from behind the arc while also forcing the Fighting Falcons into 27 turnovers.
 
GSC scored 53 points in the paint, 15 second chance points and 27 points off turnovers with 16 steals in the contest.
 
Zakiyah Winfield's new best 27 points also earned her, her fifth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds.
 
Dezha Congleton added three steals and two blocks in the match while also adding four assists.
 
Both Kaylee Pierce and Victoria Brown chipped in with ten points and a steal each.
 
The Fighting Falcons shot 44% from the field and just 4-for-16 from deep as they were lead by Sierra Kotchman who tallied 29 points.

The Lady Pioneers will face off against Notre Dame College at home to take on the Falcons Wednesday February 3rd at 5:00pm
