Glenville, W.Va. – No. 11/20 Glenville State (7-1) held their dominance in a tight matchup against Notre Dame college (7-2), handing out their second loss of the season, 76-66.
Zakiyah Winfield and
Taychaun Hubbard tallied 17 and 15 points, both with six rebounds on the night.
How It Happened
First Quarter:
Kaylee Pierce and Re'Shawna Stone put the Lady Pioneers on the board first with a shot form downtown as they took a quick 10-4 lead.
From there Glenville State gained a double-digit lead with buckets by
Jada Mitchell,
Abby Stoller and
Dazha Congleton.
Zakiyah Winfield connected with Congleton to end the first with a 23-15 advantage over the Falcons.
Second Quarter:
Opening the second the Falcons were determined to cut their deficit. Sitting just two points away 28-30, Stone then went on a 5-0 run to separate from the pack.
Notre Dame then answered back with a 6-0 run to end the quarter trailing just by one.
At the half Glenville State led 35-34 as they shot 41.2% from the floor scoring just 4-for-12 behind the arc with 21 rebounds.
Notre Dame on the other hand shot 50% from the field hitting only 2-for-5 from deep.
Third Quarter:
Abby Stoller sunk a tear drop then
Zakiyah Winfield added a three-point conversion to slowly isolate from the herd.
Mashayla Cecil and
Taychaun Hubbard went on a 7-2 run to gain their ten-point lead back at 51-41.
With under two minutes remaining in the third,
Dazha Congleton then found
Vendela Danielsson on the floor to sink a long shot three ball to lead 58-45.
Fourth Quarter:
Quick in the fourth, Danielsson sunk another three ball before NDC went on an 8-0 run in the first five minutes of the quarter.
Hubbard then slowed their momentum with a tear drop before NDC pulled back within two at 66-68 with 2:10 remaining in the contest.
Continuing to add to the Lady Pioneer's score was Hubbard with back to back layups that tugged Glenville State further from the Falcons. Winfield then shot 4-for-4 from the stripe to end the contest 76-66.
Inside The Box Score
Glenville State improved to shooting 44% from the floor while tallying eight shots from deep while taking eight steals on the night.
Jada Mitchell totaled nine points with Re'Shawna Stone following behind with eight.
Abby Stoller knotted four steals and nine rebounds as
Dazha Congleton added four assists.
Notre Dame College held many of the same statistics as GSC shooting 43% from the floor, 27% from deep both forcing 24 and 20 turnovers. The Falcons were lead by Jada Marone with 15 points and seven rebounds.
