GLENVILLE – Coach J.R Dodson's Glenville Soccer Team found the net with a goal Sunday, but the team still lost to a streaking D&E squad 6-1.
Merle Smets, a freshman from Olen, Belgium scored the GSC goal at the 79:59 mark on a penalty kick.
Davis & Elkins established a 2-0 lead by halftime, receiving a goal from Madison Rose at 20:06 on an assist from Danielle Grimmer, and a tally from Tasmin Medd-Gill at 24:22 on an assist from Rose. The Senators extended the advantage in the second half, as Ella Schmidt scored on a PK at 51:53, and Sachiko Gamo drilling home a rebound at 58:23.
Glenville's opportunity came in the game's final stages, with D&E getting called for a foul inside the box. Smets found the net on the PK to get the Lady Pioneers on the board.
D&E powered home two final goals; Azalea Ayala scored both goals…the first at 80:49 on an assist from Medd-Gill, and at 83:46 from Lisa Milliken.
It was D&E's fourth consecutive victory, as they move to 5-6 overall and 5-5 in the league. Glenville falls 1-11 overall, and 0-10 in the MEC.
Glenville returns to action on Wednesday night, hosting West Virginia Wesleyan at Morris Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00.
