Glenville, WV- Pioneer Women's Soccer was back in action on Saturday evening against the MEC North Division leader Frostburg State. After a brief lightening delay, the match started off as a back and forth defensive effort in the first thirty minutes of play, but the Bobcats would prevail in the end 3-0.
Heidi Hunter would provide the first bit of pressure for Glenville against the Frostburg defense, firing a shot at the six minute mark but the attempt missed right.
Frostburg would get first chance at goal in the 28th minute, when Audra Curtin attempted a penalty kick but was saved by the Pioneer goalie
Jasmine Runk. After a close call for Glenville, Frostburg would break the scoreless game in the 34th minute when Lela Clarke fired a shot low and right to give the Bobcats the 1-0 lead. Frostburg would take that lead into the halftime break.
Frostburg would extend their lead early in the second half, when Keely Knotts' fired a shot high over the Glenville goalie. Glenville would be on the attack shortly after to try and get a goal back.
Miki Abe would fire a shot low left, but could not convert as it was saved by the Bobcat goalie.
Miki Abe would have another great attempt in the 60th minute, firing a shot high right that hit the crossbar, but could not capitalized on.
FSU would extend the lead in the 70th minute on a shot fired low right by Mackenzie Alonso.
Frosburg would have a 14-11 shot advantage in the game. The Pioneers would apply some pressure late and have a 9-6 shot advantage in the second half.
The Pioneers will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they travel to Fairmont State.
