Justin Caldwell's Glenville State Pioneers got back in the win column Friday night, defeating St. Augustine's University 103—96 at the Waco Center. The Pioneers drained a total of 13 three-pointers to claim the victory and square their record at 2-2.
John Williams led the GSC charge, recording a season-high 35 points, raising his scoring average to 24.5 points per game.
Tommy Williams complemented him with 19 points, behind five three-point field goals.
Nick Edwards contributed 13 points and also played a tremendous floor game, posting team highs of 11 assists and six steals.
Luke LeRose contributed 11 points, nine of which came off three three-point field goals he hit during a critical first half run by the Pioneers.
Adrian Scarborough came off the bench to lead the team with eight rebounds, followed by John Williams with five. Williams also contributed two blocked shots.
St. Augustine's had two players with 20-point games; Dhashon Dyson with 24 and Todd Smith 21.
Glenville shot 46.7% from the field (35-of-75), but this total included a 13-of-39 performance beyond the arc (33.3%). The defense forced 25 St. Aug turnovers.
Glenville improves to 2-2 on the season, while St. Augustine's falls to 1-5. GSC gets back into MEC play next Wednesday hosting Notre Dame at the Waco Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30.
